Looking at the live streams, I am thoroughly impressed. The graphics are probably the best ever in any RPG, and the battle system seems extremely fun as you progress through the game and the Crystalium system (but it does seem very linear in the beginning). March can't come soon enough.

So why are achievements a selling point when they are copied in their entirety for the PS3 via trophies?

Because there are many more online players on Live than PSN. I will wait and see which is the better version. I recently bought a PS3 for BRD and have not found any exclusive game that I like for it. So if FF kicks ass on the PS3 (which I think it might) I'll get it and screw the acheivments, but if its the same for both systems then I will get it for 360 for acheivements.

Any word on Japanese reviews of the game?

FFXIII kinda fell off my radar after the trailer showing the summon, that transformed into a car, that attacked enemies by turning around and burning them with firey exhaust . . .

39/40 on Famitsu.

I really want to like this game, but after watching the trailer and seeing the melodrama, there was a dent on my desk from banging my head so many times.

Looks pretty angsty, but I'll probably still check it out. The live streams were, as has already been mentioned, great looking.

Because I've had my 360 since 2006 and all games supported them. It took about a year for me to get hooked. I didn't pickup my ps3 until 2008 and have only played exclusives. I guess I have more vested in the 360 :)

I think that's a mental thing. I have giant hands...really. And I have no problem playing on the PS3 or 360 controllers for hours on end.

"Huge" reason...no.

As for FF XIII specifically, I'm thinking that Square probably focused most of their efforts on the PS3 version of the game (given their history, starting development on it with the PS3, etc). It might not actually end up this way, but I think the PS3 version could be slightly better in some ways.

The FF XIII is out in Japan and the reviews are not so positive, but I think I will give it a try. This is a must have game for me. Can't wait till March

It has nothing to do with the size of your hands - the controllers are pretty much the exact same size. The relative positioning (distances) of all of the buttons and sticks are identical (with the obvious exception of the left stick and the d-pad being switched). The PS3's controller is just poorly designed. It's not that I can't use it, I'd just prefer not to if I can avoid it. For a game like Final Fantasy I don't think it'd matter that much though, so if I get Final Fantasy XIII it'll probably end up being on the PS3.

I really hope Sony redesigns the controller for the PS4.

Which reviews have you seen? The only real one I have heard mentioned is the Famitsu which had it at 39/40(9.75). Not excited for this game in the least honestly, but from what I have seen it seemed like the game was being held in very high regard.

Does the game have pre-rendered FMVs?

Is the sun going to come up tomorrow ;)

BTW- before this thread was started Squeenix had already confirmed that the 360 version was going to be on 3 disks and was using lower quality video in order to fit as such. I doubt that is going to be very noticeable, it isn't like users are going to be comparing it to BRD quality. It also isn't like Square pushes the technology boundaries of anything outside of storage space, I'm sure the game will run silky smooth no matter what system you get it for.

How low is that quality? I may not be able to tell on my old 34" CRT HDTV, but these new tvs that look like the picture is 3D (without needing glasses) may make the difference noticeable.

I'm on the fence about FF13. I haven't read too much about it, because I like going into a game without knowing much. Is the battle system like FF12? If so, I might skip this one. I played FF12 for about 5 hours and quit. I really love the traditional RPG battle system (turn based or ATB). If I do get it, it'll be on PS3.

They didn't provide sample examples or even give the details on the different encoding they were going to be using, just stated that it was going to be of lower quality. Honestly though, DVD level quality versus BRD quality for the FMV sequences is hardly going to be a make or brake point for most people. I think having to swap disks would be a much larger issue then degredation of the FMV- if it was in game assets that would be something totally different.

Is the battle system like FF12?

This is why I have close to no interest in this game. It won't be just like FFXII but it is going to be another evolution of their funky style battles. There are reasons I think DQ>>>>>FF, the battle system being a major one(too bad no HD DQ :( ).

(Achievements)

There are trophies to counter that.

Never had a issue with the Ps3 controller.

I'm betting it will look comparable to the HD videos (1080p/720p) on the Zune Marketplace. MS' compression for videos and audio is very good so probably only the audio and videophiles will truly be able to see a difference.

From what I've heard, the game data is only 8GB. So all the extra space is nothing but uncompressed video and audio.

I can't wait. I will be getting it for my PS3 and annoying the wife while I play it on the big screen so she can't watch her nightly programs.

Yeah, but Famitsu isn't worth a crap for their reviews. They give any big-budget money-backed titles good scores, almost always. God, I hate Famitsu.

As far as the PS3 vs 360 controller is concenred, with a game like FFXIII, I would think the PS3 controller would be better. This isn't an FPS where you would have to use both joysticks at the same time, which is where the 360 controller fairs better.

Instead, while walking around you will probably use the left joystick. Then, in battles, you will probably use the Dpad + the four shape (or letter) button on the right, which is much easier to do on the PS3 controller. Imagining playing a JRPG on a 360 controller seems annoying to me, with the dpad so low..
