Supposedly it's 50GB. While that is one blu-ray disc, it may be at 5-7 discs for XBOX 360 owners (assuming it's not compressed). Are there other games for the 360 with that amount of discs?

No it won't be close to that amount on the Xbox. Blu-Ray will use duplicates of things on the disc since the read is slow and DVD won't do that. There will definitely be compression also.

Given Dari's history, I'm totally trying to decide if this is a troll thread. But, even if it is, I am vaguely recalling that S-E said at one point that three discs was the target, simply due to manufacturing costs.

Unless there is some ultra-compelling reason to buy this on the 360, I'm supposing it'll be a PS3 purchase for me.

So MGS4 is possible on the 360 then ;)

Yeah it's never been a question for me. I'm getting it for my PS3 rather than my 360. No contest. If you own both there is NO reason to get it on the 360.

Star Ocean 4 was 3 or 4. I have it but don't remember exactly.

I'll be getting FFXIII on PS3 assuming it doesn't have the problem of so many other cross platform games on PS3 :)

The 360 should have just stuck with HD-DVD as its own proprietary media and released games on it. At least piracy wouldn't be such a huge deal then.

Games like this and Rage are going to be ugly for the 360.

They need to put the option to install the other disks then maybe it'd be better on 360 because of loading times. No one knows at this point though.

You should be able to do this anyway, right? I know you can install Lost Odyssey and that's a multi-disc game.

Yes. I've never had a problem installing all the discs on a multi-disc game.

Yeah but they still make you switch disks. They need to make it like Forza 3 where if you install all of the data from disk 2, 3 etc. you never have to switch out disk 1 from the drive.

They've already said the audio and video will be compressed for the 360. Whether or not that makes any noticeable difference remains to be seen since the 360 actually has pretty impressive compression.

Most of the games that fill up the 50GB BDs are because of uncompressed audio. With compressed audio - that most of us non-audio-philes will be happy with -it will certainly be significantly less.

Does the game have pre-rendered FMVs? Lost Odyssey did and that's why it was 4-discs. HD FMVs will do that. But if FFXIII is in-game cutscenes only and they compress the audio, then it'll easily be 2-3 discs. I'm assuming they will do pre-rendered, but still if LO did it on 4-discs - FFXIII can do it. Especially if they do super compression of that video.

Wasn't this only launched in Japan? The OP's title is a little misleading...

You're not going be changing disks a lot. I would guess once every 10-15 hours.

I get all the PS3 "exclusives" on PS3. Everything else, including this, 360... Why? I like my achievements :) Heck, my score isn't that great, only 20k, but... I still find myself oddly addicted.

Same here, but since I don't have any PS3 games anymore, I might grab this for the PS3. The ability to hear uncompressed sound also is a plus for me, but definitely not a huge factor either way.

Edit: The 360 controllers pwns the PS3 controller in my opinion, so 360 always is better for me when it comes to a "button mashing" game. FF XIII isn't really going to be that different with either controller though...

So why are achievements a selling point when they are copied in their entirety for the PS3 via trophies?

Because the platforms have separate accounts and some people like to keep all of their accomplishments under one account. Or perhaps they care about adding to their primary gaming system account more than their secondary one.

My question was posed more to jr, who having only 20k achv points or so aren't worried about keeping them on one account it seems.
