Who's getting it? Are you excited?

Who's played it? Do you enjoy it?

I should get my copy via UPS tomorrow morning. I personally don't think I'll like the new battle system, but we'll see how it turns out.

I have to say that it is by far the most fun I've had with a FF game in a long time. I'd rank things as 6-7 as a toss-up, then 12, then 10, then 9, 8, and then X-2.

The licensing system is awesome, the Clan/Mob Hunt Missions are fun and can be very challening, the Espers I haven't really used even though I have a couple of them, the Gambit system absolutely rocks (if you have the proper Gambit setup, you can make the game MUCH easier), and I like the fact that you actually have to work for gil (even though farming is there and relatively easy to do).

My copy should be here tomorrow along with the game guide.

If I thought that I would ever finish it, then I'd get it. I've played almost every FF game, and I've never finished any of them.

What part are you up to? I just beat Giruvegan; all of my characters are 50+ with about 23 Mob Hunt Missions done and most of the Licensing board filled.

Main characters are Basch, Baltheir, and Fran. Basch is the tank using an Axe/Hammer, Baltheir is Theif/Healer (Gun), Fran is Healer/Support (Bow). I also throw Ashe in there with Healer/Support using the Katana.

Pros
The collectors edition is sweet
Graphics are great for PS2
Basically no loading, smooth frame rate
Towns are full of life.
Battle system is great. You can play it like old FFs if you really want.
Huge enviroments
Characters are not annoying
It's challenging. I've failed most boss battles on the first try.

Cons
Enviroments can get repetitive.
Story is a bunch of political nonsense. After 20 hours, I've just gotten to the first major plot twist involving primary characters.
Some grinding is required to get enough money and be at the proper level.
License Board makes all chacters the same.

I don't suppose it's coming out for PC, or even a different console? I'd hate to buy a PS2 just for this... well actually I'd love to buy I can't justify it :)

Damn I want this game. Too bad I sold my PS2 about 6 months ago. :( I might have to sell my Xbox and pickup a PS2 just for this.

If you have a powerful PC...emulators are getting very close.

Let me ask the people that have played it, do you really care about the characters in this one? Final Fantasy 6 had me very involved in the story. I really cared about the characters and what happened (as much as you can care about a fictional character, I suppose). Final Fantasy 7? Not so much.

Final Fantasy games have really drifted from their golden era. I've pretty much given up on them, but I still hope that they'll become interesting again.

I absolutely hated the new battle system, but now I wish more RPG's followed this style. So far I like the game a lot although (insert spoiler here) kinda disappointed me so far. I have ~8 hours into the game only though. :)

Grabbing it tomorrow right after school...I haven't been this excited for a video game ever. Honestly. Ever.

How long did it take you to fill the licensing board? I am thinking of trying to cheese the game early on by filling the board up fighting easy enemies for points... (And yeah, I know it will take a while, but I am the type that loves to put hundreds of hours into FF games.)

I am only 8 hours into the game, but so far these characters are forgettable to me. I guess it's too early to tell.

I'm about 60 hours into the game. I've done a lot of farming, so it's been done relatively quick. In the Stillshrine of Miriam, after you get the Stone of the Condemner from the priest outside of Mt. Bur-Omisace, you can teleport to an area to fight an Esper. After you defeat him (which is not that easy BTW, can't use any magic so you better either have a lot of ethers or your license board filled up where you gain MP after taking/dealing damage)) and come back to that area, you can steal/kill the enemeies there for Bloody Darkened Bones that sell for approximately 1500 gil a pop. It's relatively easy to get 99 of them if you chain your kills, leave then come back, and continue with the chain. It's a great way to net 140,00+ gil.

Also, the Golden Amulet accessory Doubles LP, so I equip that on all my characters when farming, and when leveling I equip the Embroidered Tippet on my party characters which gives Double XP.

Also, the proper Gambit system makes things monumentally automated and easier. I have the following system setup.

Baltheir (Healer/Theif)
01) Ally Any (Phoenix Down)
02) Ally HP < 20% (X-Potion)
03) Ally HP < 40% (Curaga)
04) Ally Any (Esuna)
05) Enemy (Dispelga)
06) Enemy HP = 100% (Steal)
07) Self MP < 10% (Charge)
08) Enemy HP = 100% (Attack)
09) Enemy Lowest HP (Attack)
10) Ally HP < 90% (Regen)
11) Self (Haste)

Basch (Tank)
01) Ally Any (Phoenix Down)
02) Ally HP < 20% (X-Potion)
03) Self (Decoy)
04) Self (Protect)
05) Self MP < 10% (Charge)
06) Enemy Lowest HP (Attack)
07) One Ally (Protect)
08) Self (Haste)
09) Self (Libra)

Fran (Healer/Fighter)
01) Ally Any (Phoenix Down)
02) Ally HP < 20% (X-Potion)
03) Ally HP < 40% (Curaaa)
04) Self MP < 10% (Charge)
05) Enemy Lowest HP (Attack)
06) Self (Haste)
