Not sure which II they mean yet - Japanese-released II for NES, or American-released II for SNES (aka IV).

EDIT: Looks like the 'true' II.
Since they've started re-releasing games they generally mean the true version, not the American ones we got back in the 90's.
Which means little to me cuz I played Final Fantasy 2 a long time ago and was not impressed. 3 wasnt so hot either.
Or 5. But 5 was OK. At least when you changed jobs you didnt lose all your points.

I just downloaded FF1 for $3.99.
The controls are simple and it appears that you can save anywhere, anytime.

FF2 is $3.99 and FF3 is $15.99.

Final Fantasy III ported from the DS version.

Freakin' fantastic version of this game, graphics are awesome. Controls are way better then the first two, check it out.

Ugh. I have one of the FF's on my iPod Touch. For games that are LONG, I prefer mouse/keyboard/controller. It's so ridiculously fail. iPod games should be short because I'm not going to squint at that tiny screen for more than a few minutes at a time.

original FF rocks for the ipod. great for playing when on a plane, or on the move or for a quick session. i'm sure you can get FF to run on your atom netbook though when it finally boots up.

FF1 graphics look great on the iPhone 3G. I don't remember the graphics for the original NES version of FF1, but I am assuming they have been updated a ton.

From the screenshots, FF3 is amazingly better than FF1, but I wasn't going to pay $16.

I still have my NES version and a couple different emulators for various platforms. Once you get through the early leveling grind (get the dwarves to use the TNT), the game is surprisingly short with the ice caves being one highly annoying area.

Who was the extra random enemy (boss) near Tiamat that was so devilishly tough?

Addendum: BB/Monks kick ass, but are so weak early on that a fighter / BB / WM / BM is really the easiest party to beat the game with.

Is FF2 worth buying? I haven't played the original FF2 and FF3, but I'm sure as hell not paying $16 for FF3

Chaos Rings is also on sale if you're interested in the iOS exclusive RPG.

Wow, didn't realize they released FF3. Looks like iPad version comes out in April. Can't wait.

But how good will the quality be? I've heard that it's not even worth buying Chaos Rings HD, because the quality is about as good as the 2x magnification feature being used on the iPhone/iPod version.

i've played it on and off, it's okay, i'm about an hour in to it. FF1 had an extremely memorable soundtrack and i enjoyed it, maybe for nostalgic purposes, i never really played FF2 back in the day.

IV > IV 🙂

I already have 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 on my iphone though.

and before any dudley do rights start ranting about piracy and what not, I also have the physical copies somewhere in my attic at home. Kinda hard to plug the ol nes in and carry it in my pocket. ya dig?

After fighting the pirates in Pravoka, if you wind your way northeast to the peninsula, the top four squares of land produces much stronger enemies (Trolls, Bulls IIRC) than the lands surrounding the town. Good for early leveling.

Anyone remember the Hall Of Giants?

WarMech. Only found in Tiamat's room, usually on the bridge leading to his chamber and you had a 1 in 64 chance of encountering him. I sure was glad he wasn't a mandatory mini-boss before Tiamat.

There was also another monster, either T-Rex or Tyro (same beast just one was red and one blue) that actually wasn't even in the game AFAIK.

Oh and while I'm thinking of that part of the game I'd like to nominate the Vorpal, Sun Sword and maybe the Bane Sword as the most worthless weapons in the game.

Dammit, now I'm gonna fire up the emulator and start playing this again.
