Yeah they should tape all the beatings he's given out and include it in a small regular segment in the show. Or why not get a new show produced somewhere else where Jeremy's profanity is unedited and he gets to do whatever he wants including punching the camera crew.

OMG Yes! And show it on the Netflix so I don't have to take two minutes every week to find the stream somewhere online.

Fuck yeah. Dump all 3 and give us Matt Farah, Adam Corolla and Chris Harris.

Top Gear hasn't been that entertaining for a while IMO. It's just that there's nothing better for car entertainment.

No, no and no. Matt Farah is an annoying douche - to me he's like a profane Gen-X version of John Davis - and while I like Carolla, he is no substitute for the TG guys. He's too autistic and robotic to be TGUK material (not to mention that he would never move to the UK). I think realistically the BBC should let Chris Harris pick who he would like to work with (could be one or two other guys, preferably with a great sense of humor) and completely revamp the show. Let Clarkson, Hammond and May go to Netflix or wherever. To me their chemistry is evergreen and I will watch whatever they do. Most likely I would also watch and love a Harris iteration of TG, so long as the co-hosts were not just dead weight bores (like, well, everyone who has ever hosted TG America and/or TG Australia).

Idk, if I were the BBC why would I throw away ratings like this...

Because they don't want to set a precedent that a star can get violent with no repercussions. There might be liability involved if he was allowed to stay on while his producer also worked there.

And now the BBC can move onto producing rubbish that it loves like "The Clare Balding Show" and "Citizen Khan" the BBC has hated Top Gear for years and resented that it was popular and a worldwide success. It doesn't fit in with the BBC left wing agenda. If it doesn't tick a box, it doesnt get made now in the BBC.
However I do believe that Jeremy Clarkson did in fact deserve to be punished and was so out of order that his position was untenable. Any normal person would have been fired on the spot after physically assaulting a colleague.
That being said it annoys me immensely that the final 3 episodes of this series, which have already been shot and, as a licence fee payer, I helped pay for, now won't be shown. While the BBC keeps on raking in the money from the Top Gear brand. They will probably even use the loss of revenue as an excuse to increase the licence fee.

OJ killed two people and got away with it because he was a star..

Sounded like nothing more than a bar fight to me.. If they want to throw away 300 million viewers so be it. I for one will be using this to finally unplug for DTV, the only reason I have been hanging on is for BBC America.

You approve of employees verbally and physically assaulting their coworkers?

And? Do you see me cheering that OJ got away with it?

You go clock a coworker and see how that works for you.

And now a whole bunch of people will be out of work. I don't see RH and JM continuing without JC. If the BBC tries to replace them all that will go over like a lead balloon. Might as well just close up shop now.

Indeed. And keep in mind the BBC is a public broadcaster. Private companies can get away with stuff at times - and indeed if this were an American TV company I'd expect them to sweep it under the rug - but the BBC is accountable to the UK public.

That said, Clarkson and the rest of the trio could easily go somewhere else and make Not Top Gear and a lot of those viewers would follow. The BBC is in a no-win position.

I didn't spend several years watching TG because of something other than the hosts. Car shows are aplenty, but these three guys made the show what it is now. To replace them would be suicide, especially considering the number of people that signed the petition (~1 Million).

Of course, there are those viewers that will watch anything, including a show run by morons and catering to pussy producers.

People love to live out their automotive fantasies vicariously through this man on television. His popularity does not exempt him from punching co-workers. It's blatantly obvious that firing him was the correct decision. Life will go on for those enamored of him.

I'm sure they'll go onto something else.

Host used violence and everyone lost. They made the right call.
Bingo.

I'm not sure what the position of the people who were petitioning to get him back was. Basically it's "we like him so much we don't care if he punched his boss because a restaurant wouldn't serve him after hours." o_O

I mean, how in the world could the BBC justify that? They couldn't, and didn't. Talk about being painted into a corner.

Look, he punched a PRODUCER of the show (aka: his boss) over not getting the steak that he wanted. He had a freaking prima-donna hissy fit and hit his boss. For that you get fired and likely blackballed or at least greyballed in any industry.

"Reason for leaving last job?"
"I hit my boss."
"I see... and why did you hit your boss?"
"I didn't get the meal that I wanted."
"I see... and are you going to hit me, when I say 'no' to you too?"
"Yes."

He won't get blackballed for the same reason why we tolerate athletes and movie stars who behave badly. They still draw a huge audience, which brings in their bosses the cash. Scandal can even be a benefit to their career, ironically enough.

Besides, even if he does get blackballed by the industry, Clarkson could very easily produce his own show on the internet. He has a huge fanbase who will follow him anywhere. Actually that would probably be the best thing for him. Would give him the freedom to do what he wants, but he'd also have to manage all his productions. Give him a nice eye opener into how complex the job is.

James May's brief interview seems to indicate that he will not continue with Top Gear without Clarkson.

Richard Hammond has wisely chosen to keep quiet on the whole issue, but he did say this on Twitter.
Gutted at such a sad end to an era. We're all three of us idiots in our different ways but it's been an incredible ride together.

It's always sad when a good thing goes out on a sour note.

I wouldn't have the patience to stand there while someone ranted for 20 minutes. After 5 minutes I'd have been telling the guy enough is enough. You have to shut blowhards down early. They see they're getting room to bloviate and they run with it.
