sorry man rent takes a healthy chunk out of the pay check, then there are the credit card bills from when i was laid off. then there are the medical bills from the broken jaw when i didnt have health insurance, then the repairs to my 500 dollar car that i have had for 2+ years that i need to get to work. Cd's come in really low on that list. Cd's are not the high priority item that is at the top of everyones mind. If i get em for free online, fine. If not, I go back to having everyone bring their cds over when i have parties and burning a lot. What cds i do buy are straight from the bands.

Wow! Where the heck did that new river come from?

O I C. It's the new one that you're crying.

Like i said before i want the damn RIAA to get ont he music labels and retailers to let me return a CD if its crappy.

I can return a lot of other merchandise if im not satisifed with it..i should be able to return a CD if all but a few songs are quality.

Fine let them go after people but address the consumers issues too!

What you don't seem to understand is that not everybody is a tool like you who will go out and buy the latest CD by the "Gargling Balls" because the Recording Studios promoted it.

You say it like it hasn't always been this way. Promoting sh!t bands came way before the RIAA flexed their muscles.

But now the consumer is flexing their Muscle and the RIAA is blaming everyone but themselves for the decline in retail sales

But are you sure consumers are really rebelling because of a decline in quality? Or is it that people have always been cheapskates and now they have an easy way to be cheap? I can't say for sure, but if there was an easy way to bootleg music worldwide "back when music was good" as some people like to say, I'm pretty sure people back then would do it as well.

When you were listening to the Beatles and Elvis, your parents screamed how horrible the music was. They implored you to break out the victrola to play some big band and swing.

Same old story different generation.

Not as easy as Downloading MP3's but if you wanted to buy them all you had to do was head out to the local Flea market or borrow an LP and record it on your Reel to Reel.

The difference was is that I had the option to buy a 45 first for under a buck. If I liked it then I would go out and buy the LP for $6.50

Your an idiot. Ok...maybe not an idiot since I don't know you that well, but I DO know that you're unrelastic.

$10-12 PER CD for EVERY CD would be AWESOME.

I still buy CDs, but let me tell you, if CDs were priced better, I would be giving the RIAA a LOT more business...otherwise I just listen to the radio or shoutcast for my music.

Like Red Dawn, I predict little to no increase in sales.
Why? Many reasons:
- A lot of people simply can't afford to buy CDs. They couldn't before, they can't now. In selling any product, it's a well-known fact that some people simply CANNOT afford your product, and that that fact shouldn't bother you as long as plenty of people can afford it. You don't see BMW marketing to poor people do you?
- The RIAA's actions in the past few years have been an excellent marketing study into how NOT to do public relations. There is somewhat of an informal boycott going on in geek, tech, and even musical circles about this and I expect it to continue.
- A lot of people already downloaded everything they wanted. Stuffed with 100's of gigabytes of music, they have no need or desire for any of the new crap and filth. Can't keep 'em down on the farm after they've seen Paree'.
- The article didn't say filesharing was down 41%, it said Kazaa was down 41%. There are alternatives to Kazaa, many of which are not easily tracked, and I think it would be safe to assume that those alternatives have seen an increase in usage.
- And most importantly.... *drum roll* the vast majority of the public out there are completely unaware of this issue and could give a sh!t. They didn't download anything, and their CD buying habits have not changed in any way, not from pre-Napster til now. And with the economic downturn of the past few years, the fact that music CDs are a luxury for most people, and the overall crappiness of new music (and the downturn in the radio and music video industries that promote it), I think it would be safe to say that overall sales will remain down from previous highs.

True. But they do lose significant sales to the used car industry every year.
