RIAA will never get a penny from me unless they reduce the prices down to $5-10 range

I doubt it'd be a fun idea to call it quits and watch the world of music crumble because no one can afford to put an album out nation-wide anymore.

sigh... but something tells me i better gear up on my irc skills...

also, i wish that all those many mp3s i had downloaded on previous occasions which i let flit away with the wind when i reformatted i had kept backups of.... i always figured the downloads would be ceaseless and worry free... not so much that anymore.

File sharing will always exist in some form or another. I do feel it will eventually become much more difficult and the mainstream will be out of the picture.

Back to the point. The Recording industry is not going to rebound because file sharing is down. The downloaders are not the purchasers.

That's just on Kazaa. I'd like to see how much FTP servers from IRC, newsgroups, and bit torrent have picked up since RIAA started their Gestapo-like cleansing of America.

Why is everyone so hypocritical about this?

If you didn't have this venue to acquire free music, you'd buy the CD's.

Stop the BS.. Everyone.

Tell me why do you think it is BS? Do you really believe that Sales would increase dramatically, especially considering the crap that is released today? Many people will download the music because it is free but wouldn't even consider wasting their money on it!

Personally I would not buy the CDs. I would copy them from other people or just listen to the radio, etc.

Well said. Remember Napster? People moved to Morpheus. Then Kazaa. They just cant stop it. IRC and Usenet still reign supreme IMO.

This was before they started to sue the individual. Now that they are suing(sp) us, the commoners will back down.

sorry man rent takes a healthy chunk out of the pay check, then there are the credit card bills from when i was laid off. then there are the medical bills from the broken jaw when i didnt have health insurance, then the repairs to my 500 dollar car that i have had for 2+ years that i need to get to work. Cd's come in really low on that list. Cd's are not the high priority item that is at the top of everyones mind.

If i get em for free online, fine. If not, I go back to having everyone bring their cds over when i have parties and burning a lot. What cds i do buy are straight from the bands.

And there are plenty of people who DO download the music for free simply because they don't want to spend their money on the CD. Once they're unable to download music for free they'll most certainly start purchasing the CDs.

Perhaps an analogy might be some people on welfare; certainly there are some who wouldn't be able to find work if the were no longer receiving welfare checks, but there are plenty of people who would get off their arse and find a job as well.

umm... it didnt say file sharing down 41%, it said kazaa down 41%.

waste servers, winMX, IRC, usenet, all that's still working.

It's because most people don't know how to use the GOOD File Sharing SW...

Bear Share and Blubster don't cut.. Hell KL isn't really cutting it anymore...

I seriously doubt there would be a significant increase. The reason is most who download do it because it's free. If they had to pay for it they'd just do without because it is not worth the money.

Who has said that 100% of leaches will start purchasing CDs again if they are no longer able to acquire them for free? No one. You might not start buying CDs, but there are plenty who will. Even if 25% start buying again they will have achieved a significant return.

and on top of that the number is worthless because the drop took place during the summer, when millions of college students lose their high speed net access when they go home.
