Nothing really but the woman from the Canadian team ran into the man from the Russian team during the warmup. Wasn't intentional but probably unsettling.

I dont think it mattered much. She said she was in a bit of pain but nothing to cripple her performance.

IMO, the Canadian pair did a performance truly worthy of gold, but the fact that they didn't receive gold is quite disappointing. And I'm not saying this because I myself am Canadian as well. You have eyes, judge for yourself. What they had was a love story and perfection. Is there an olympic committee or some place where we can send letters to them to voice our opinion on this matter? I really feel for them, they got raped 🙁

The Chinese trying the quad thing was really a bad mistake that affected their entire program later on and their mentality. It was a very high risk they took.

As bad as this apparently was, it doesn't come anywhere near boxer Roy Jones Jr. in 1988 on the "raped in the Olympics" scale. They actually found out after he lost his decision that three of the judges were literally paid off by South Korean olympic officials.

Or the icedance from 1998 where the judges were caught mark fixing, Canadians lost then too.
Figure skating judging is still a load of gorilla sh!t.

There were two judges on the fence - without the ties, it was 4 for the Canadians, and 3 for the Russians.

The Canadians OWNED that rink. The Canadians were the only pair in the top 4 that skated flawlessly. If you want to argue difficulty, then how about those Chinese that hit the quad jump.

Chinese didn't hit the quad jump, she fell. People only look at the jumps, but there are plenty of other difficult parts in a routine. Some of the footwork and spins might be even harder than the jumps and stufff, I don't know. I still thought the Canadiens should have won, but I had a feeling that the Russians would wind up winning. The big shock to me was how the Chinese team got the Bronze. Thats what makes you think that the Chinese judge colluded with the Russian block. I thought the 2nd Russian team (and the US team) did a lot better than the Chinese.

I dont think it should be an olympic sport. Everyone noes the judging is fixed. There was the ice dancing controversy, and even Eisler and Brasseur were robbed b4 that.

 

I luved the Russian Pair.

With all due respect to the Canadians, they were good, but not as good as the Russians. The Russians played hard, whereas the Canadians chose the easier routine. Besides, once they slipped with the guy forgetting to hold on to the lady, I can't fault the judges. I thought that was cute and funny, but that was only good enough for entertainment. I would guess they had more competition than that but I didn't get to see it.

I don't generally watch figure skating, but I luv to watch it during the Olympics.

I think most speaking here in favour of Canada are biased in one way or the other (i.e., Canadians themselves or thinking along marketing system of both nations or the ethnic association).

The Chinese girl did hit the quad jump. She didn't fall till about 4 feet after she landed.

They were robbed, even the NBC announcers expected Canada to win, but were shocked when the results were announced.

I'm not Canadian, and as usual, have very little clue what you're talking about luvly, but I agree that the Canadians were robbed. So do plenty of "expert" commentators and skaters. I've seen several interviews just this morning talking about how something in figure skating judging has been rotten for a long time.

Not to take anything away from the Russian pair, who did skate a technically difficult routine (but not cleanly), but the Canadians were the better skaters last night and should have won the gold. The fact that they didn't says more about what's wrong in skating than their skills on the ice.

Hmm, really? I didn't see the scores themselves, but a few minutes after the competition ended, NBC showed the ordinals in a graphic. And that graphic definitely said "1" for the Canadians from the US judge, and "2" for the Russians from the same judge.

This thread is funny. No one in here (i'm guessing) is a figure skating expert. How can you be making decisions about who should have won? And the experts that are saying the canadians should have won are either from Canada or America, so they may be just a little biased there huh?

Why would Poland or Ukraine give good points to Russia? Poland to say "Thank you for decades of communist oppression" and Ukraine to say "Thank you for polluting our country with Tchernobyl". I don't think that's the case. I don't honestly think something weird is going on. I was just pointing out what had been shown on TV because I thought it was interesting (and coincidental).

Figure Skating Judges = bad joke.

Figure Skating = rigged.

The winners are determined LONG before anyone touches the ice - by judges who pick who they "like" best.

There is no conspiracy or payoffs, just pure stupidity and unchecked bias.

Figure Skating is the next professional boxing... a big, stupid joke.


Imagine if the SuperBowl this year had ended like it did - the Pats rush out on the field celebrating, fans going nuts... commentators calling it the best SuperBowl in recent memory.

Then an announcement: "Ladies and Gentlemen - the judges have decided that St. Louis is the winner of the SuperBowl as they tried more long throws and exciting plays. Thank-you."

Sheesh.

I don't know, i just remember seeing the scores and thinking - "what the f*ck is US judge doing voting for russians". I wonder if they have copies of the scores on espn or something.
