This morning I woke up feeling a strange sensation. I was almost immediately hungry, but in a different way than usual; normally I can ignore hunger, even strong pangs, but this time I felt like I was in withdrawal. My hands were shaking as well. This didn't subside until I had a banana, a jarred serving of Activia yogurt (100 g), a Lindor chocolate, perhaps 100 g of cashews, and a cracker or so.

I literally felt like I was fiending for food, but I don't remember feeling anything like this for years. What could have caused this?

FWIW: right before I slept, I downed a ~900 kcal weight gainer shake, made with water and about 1 tsp of creatine. I hadn't had a weight gainer shake in a few months. Blood sugar issue from the maltodextrin?

my personal experience is the more i eat late at night, the hungrier i am when i wake up.

if i eat a lot close to or right before bed, i wake up sooooo hungry. but if i dont eat anything later, i wake up feeling normal, and wont feel hungry til 3-4 hours later.

as to why, blood sugar might have something to do with it, but thats more science-y than i know.

Up until a few months ago, I would have a weight gainer shake every night before I went to bed, but I don't remember ever feeling like this.

I didn't eat much dinner. Also, I would like to weigh more.

So you want to get fat? Just eat carbs, like ice cream, if you want to gain terrible weight.

Otherwise you'll need to start lifting weights and consuming increased protein calories.

Gram for gram, weight gainer usually has almost as much person as protein powder.

Fwiw I had ON Serious Mass

Serious Mass is pretty awesome.

I think what this "fiending for food" sensation you're getting is your body telling you you're deficient in something. My appetite goes into ravenous mode after really hard workouts sometimes, and I will spend the next day consuming everything [healthy] in sight.

I'm pretty hypoglycemic, so if I mess up the way I eat, I get that way - shaking hands, hunger pangs, etc. Usually if I go nuts on sugar or if I eat intermittently - I'm fine if I don't eat all day and THEN eat dinner, or if I have a steady food intake throughout the day, but I'm not fine if I just randomly eat a meal and then wait for awhile between meals.

Sure, protein wise, except for that extra 248 grams of carbohydrates which are completely worthless.

Like I said, do you want to gain lean mass or just mass? If you want mass, go eat pizza, spaghetti, or ice cream. It'll taste better and be just as bad for you.

TLDR: Eat more real food, consume fewer supplements.

I get that way if I have not eaten carbs in a while. I mostly rotate meats and vegatables for meals completely ignoring any grains. Then on Saturday or Sunday I get some carbs into my body. Only way I can keep the weight off personally. I work out three times a week fairly hard.
