A (very) quick look at each boards specs, shows a different LAN chip. But, most other things look the same.

AU13

AU11

I believe both boards are much the same, with several cavets. First off, the LAN does not really count - I've seen different revisions of the same model of motherboard have different LAN chips - in fact, the CD that comes with the m/b has all of the different LAN chip drivers, and just uses the one that is actually installed.

So, other than this, the 2 real differences is that the AU13 has the optional SATA interface available, whereas the AU11 does not. Lastly the AU11 has a considerably different layout, because it is an earlier design. If I had to choose between these two, I'd get the AU13, even if these was a few dollars price difference. But until they make a dual channel nForce2 m/b that has the extras of the AN19E, I'll probably wait to move to a new board. I find that the KT400 chipset gives much the same performance of the nForce2, with the exception of not being dual-channel, of course.

A little more digging on these two boards shows a some 2002 COMDEX photos of each:

AU11 Comdex

AU13 Comdex

I noticed that the Comdex AU13 had active (fan) cooling on the chipset and also had LEDs, presumably, for error code reporting. I don't see either of these on the current pictures of the board.

I really like the way the IDE and power connectors are arranged, my board (shuttle ak31) has theses connectors, IDE bottom right of the board, and the power connector is right below the cpu socket (not good air flow).

this board layout looks good, but without it being in my case I can't know for sure.

I have a question for you oc'ers out there, how much would a thoroughbred B 1800+ oc to with some kingston pc2100 mem, and this board, or any nforce2 board for that matter? i wanted to get to 2400+ speeds, but if this is not possible w/ pc2100 then tell me what speed mem. I need, pc2700?

As is the case in all overclocking, YMMV. But you can never have enough RAM, and it can never be to fast. But in the specific case of your question, any real PC2700 should be able to a FSB of at least 333. Now, can you oc your 1800+ to 2400+ by increasing the fsb from the default 133 to 166 or more? You'll just have to try and see what you can get with your specific setup. I can, but don't. My FSB is running at 133 (x2), but my memory is running at true PC3200 (aka DDR400), since the KT400 chipset seperates the memory bus speed from the fsb speed, and can run it at different multipliers, up to 400Mhz.

I've actually overclocked my OCZ PC3200 CL2 rev 2 memory to 494Mhz! The machine booted just fine, but windows did not load - and it actually killed my windows installation. This was Sunday night, and I've just mostly finished restoring my main box this morning. What fun!

You should be able to overclock just your CPU with the nForce2 by upping the FSB, and setting the FSB-DRAM ratio to a number that will keep your DDR at 266MHz. For example:

To OC the CPU FSB to 166Mhz, and keep your Mem speed at 133MHz, you would set the FSB to 166MHz, and use a 5:4 CPU/FSB ratio.

166MHz/5=33Mhz
133Mhz/4=33Mhz

:D

I have the AU11 and flashed it with the epox bios. Works great!

You can do that? are they compatible?

Yep! I'm running it right now. AU11 is the same board as the Epox 8RDA+.

It is my understanding that FIC makes the motherboards, and Epox rebrands them. Here's an example, my FIC AN19E on the left, the Epox 8K9A2+ on the right:

In reference to other motherboards, not the AU13, i.e. 2nd post "...before I got my MSI K7N2-L. 2x1394 and IDE RAID included".

Newegg's description DID SAY IDE RAID and 2x1394 FIREWIRE. They have apparently changed it since the last time I looked that it. Guess that answers my questions about the discrepancies between Newegg's pictures and their description. I was hoping that their pictures were wrong, but unfortunately their description was. :(

Now I don't feel bad at all about getting my K7N2-L, since this board doesn't offer a single thing that mine doesn't have.

Also, the K7N2-L DOES NOT HAVE IDE RAID OR FIREWIRE. Thank Newegg for all this confusion.

Ouch! That hurts- I paid $96 for a AU11 two weeks ago.

Remember- The AU13 is AFAIK a unique board- so don't expect BIOS updates. FIC hasn't even bothered to post AU11 updates, so I flashed it with the 8RDA+ bios.

OIC, missed the period after the "L". Sorry to add to the neweggnog confusion. :D

FIC does post updates, just not as quickly as we might desire. in many cases, it is only to support newer processors, as there are generally very few bugs to be fixed.

This board is NOT an 8RDA+ so I would not recommend flashing it with the 8RDA+ bios.

I think it's the AU11 that is much the same as the 8RDA+, not this AU13. <j>That'll be called the 8RDB+ </j>

I hope so cause I went and ordered 1 last night B4 Newegg changed the discription as FIC's website stated optional RAID and that's what Newegg printed it had!

Perhaps you need to clairify, since I'm not sure what you mean by honoring that price? In any event, the m/b is also available from Mwave.

Ummm, that's nice of you to offer. So, then, you'd be representing........whom?
