Same net price at Mwave. Successor to AU11 and Epox 8rda+? See specs at:

FIC

No mention of Soundstorm. Anyone know if I should get this?

Wow. All I can say is I wish I got this before I got my MSI K7N2-L. 2x1394 and IDE RAID included? That is a GREAT deal, since all but one other board don't even support IDE RAID, and any boards with 1394 are usually the nForce2 deluxe versions.

I think the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe is the way to go from what I've heard. I have one, it also has onboard Serial ATA Raid.

FIC is a contract manufacturer for Epox...they make the 8RDA. The AU-11 is virtually identical to the 8RDA and OC's just as well.

Notice this board has a good sized heatsink on the Southbridge?

I have been looking at the pictures, both at the FIC site FIC website

and on NewEgg. I do NOT see any connectors for IDE Raid. I see two IDE connectors (one blue, one white), one floppy connector (black), and that is all. Am I going blind or can someone confirm what I am seeing?

I'm looking at the pictures from newegg as well as from FIC's site and I don't see 2 firewire ports or onboard RAID. Am I missing something?

Good price though.

The firewire port is clearly visible on FIC's picture, so Newegg must have an incorrect picture. I would think if Newegg says their mobo has 1394 then it has 1394. As for IDE RAID, why does it need separate IDE connectors for it? What's to prevent a mobo maker from just using two IDE ports for simple RAID 0 or 1?

Are mounting holes really that necessary anymore? How much cooler does a big-ass CPU HSF keep a processor than, say, a Vantec Aeroflow? I doubt it is much. Do water coolers require those holes? If so then I can see that being a huge deterrent to a hardcore OC'er, but not to any casual OC'er who just wants to make his new T-Bred B 2100+ into a 2700+.

EDIT: Also, Mwave's product description says that the board comes with 1 1394 cable. Could this "cable" be the thing that plugs into the header on the board to give the second 1394 port?

I did notice they moved the power connector from the area near the CPU socket to the side of the board. I don't know about you people, but that's gonna get interesting once all the cables are in place....

i agree with you - with most heatsinks coming with three-prong clips now-a-days there certainly isn't a need for holes in your mobo - unless you use that type of hs/f and refuse to change. what gets me is why the person even made the comment? obviously he wasn't interested AT ALL in buying this but he just couldn't resist making the arsehole comment about holes in the motherboard - ewwwwww that just burns me up. just move on - get it - move on. its not that hard. if you don't have anything positive or noteworthy to say... :|

Actually that was one of the most requested things that users wanted changed.
Apparently FIC/Epox were listening, and they moved the connector to this better location!

I agree with Solema on HSF mount.
Today's CPU's run much cooler.
Running XP1700+ TBred at XP2400++ speeds (191x10.5), and it barely breaks 42c using cheap SVC GC68 $5 HSF.
If you do the VDD mod, and are into wacko overclocking, then yes, those mounting holes would be nice.

I've been using FIC m/b's for years, and never had a single problem. This is a nice board, I've sold one to a client, and he is very happy with it. I personally have the FIC AN19E, which has the 2 onboard RAID IDE ports, as well as SATA, but uses the KT400 chipset. Now I realize it's not a nForce2, but I have no complaints whatsoever.

And by the way most socket A FIC motherboards allow overclocking via the BIOS with no modification necessary to the CPU, for the Tbred processors.

lol. It's the same guy that posted "wish it was an Asus" or something like that in the thread about the Fry's deal for MSI nForce2 & XP 2100+ for $150. :D

pspada: Does your motherboard have two ADDITIONAL raid ports, or are the two raid ports the only two HDD ports on the board? That's what I am trying to figure out with this FIC one, if the two ports in the pic are RAID-capable, or if there is another version of the board not pictured that has extra RAID ports. I'd be content with simple RAID 0.

Is this an upgrade from the AU11?

A (very) quick look at each boards specs, shows a different LAN chip. But, most other things look the same.

The AN19E has the SATA interface (2 drives), and a total of 4 IDE connections, 2 regular IDE0 and IDE1, and 2 RAID. In theory, you could run CDs, Tape drives, etc., off of the Raid IDE connectors, if you needed to free up the 2ndary IDE1 chain for hard drives or such.

For reference, the AN19C is exactly the same board, but without the 2 RAID and the SATA connectors. Oh, the RAID does 0,1, and 0+1
