Just checking out the age distribution...

Favorite
0-24: 19
25+: 22

Not Favorite
0-24: 17
25+: 25

(24-25 was the cutoff I'd imagined... i guess that's sorta coming out... maybe...)

You should have two age distributions, one for if it's you favorite and one for if it is not

It is not my favorite, and I'm 26.

I'll be 27 in Feb, but I guess I was around 17 when I played it. I had a longer attention span back then, plus it's hard to break my fond memories of that game.

I loathe FFVII and I'm 28. I was 18 when it came out and I disliked it from the get go, even though I bought a PSX just for that game. I had to force myself to finish it.

FFVI is my favorite video game of all time, by the way.

30, FF7 is my favorite.

I have never played 6, but after seeing how many votes it got in the other thread I may have to check it out. What systems is(was) it available on ?

FF6 is available as FF3 on SNES, or as FF6 on GBA (i think). It's also on PSX as part of the FF chronicles/anthology pack i think. Hands down best RPG ever.

PS1 as part of the "Final Fantasy Anthology" and SNES as "Final Fantasy III"

Edit: Oh yeah, and the GBA.

I've never played FF7. I mean I've played it before, briefly, but I've never owned it or attempted to complete it.

Loved the game, and I am 28. I bought a STB Voodoo2 card just for the game.

The results are very different from what I was expecting. I figured older people who "grew up on" Nintendo would prefer FFVI and younger people who "grew up on" Playstation would prefer VII. The results are the opposite of that. But I guess I was looking at it as VII vs Pre-VII, and the results probably reflect VII vs post-VII for many people.

yeah, pretty much. middle school seems to be the formative age for tastes, be it video gaming, music, sports preference, etc. Therefore, I assumed that post-1997 middle schoolers would be die-hard FFVII'ers, and pre-1997 middle schoolers would be FFI-FFVI'ers.

i personally think that FFVII kinda sucks. Square got carried away with their "new-fangled 3-D graphics" and forgot about gameplay. they tried to buttress the lack of gameplay with chocobo junk, but really that's just pointless grinding. FFI-FFIII(SNES) is where it's at.

IMO, FF7 is not when Square got carried away. It was after FF9. Too many menus and pop-ups shouting "THIS IS A MINI-GAME! LUCKY 777s! MISSION TIME!" Blah blah blah.

I had played one and (I think) two before hand, along with other classics Dragon Warrior, Chrono Trigger, Zelda, etc. FF7 was the first game I can remember being truly immersed into. The other games were great, and I was certainly hooked until I finished them, but there was something about 7 that just grabbed me. Maybe it was the characters, dialog, "New Fangled 3d", I cant remember to be honest. I just remember the feeling, I HAVE TO play this game.. What happens next, etc.. I even liked the "extra" bosses that were around once you finished the story.. The whole game just seemed so vast and epic in a way I had never seen before.

Of course, this is all from addled memory. I haven't played the game in at least 10 years. I am kinda saving myself for some kind of remake.

I'll turn 41 very soon and loved FFVII. As for favorite, well, hard to say. With all the number mixing from the Japanese and American versions its hard to saw which one is best because if you refer to one ver its a dif number in both places. SO, on that note I will go on record and say FF III for the US DS is MY fav. :)

23, got started on the original on NES (didn't know how to equip weapons...somehow still beat Garland!). Favorite is II, followed by III. I actually never owned a PSX, but I had VII for PC and VIII/IX for a psx emu...

I'd rank them

1. II
2. III
3. VII
4. I
5. X
6. XI
7. IX
8. VIII

I haven't played X-2 or XII yet.

Well, I really enjoyed FFII (IV) and FF III(VI), but FF VII took a HUGE leap forward IMO. I know it's trendy to hate FF VII and love FF VI but in my opinion FF VII is the better game overall.

Dacalo I don't know that that's "trendy"....it seems more like if you got started on the SNES games, you tend to like them more.

I'd also like to point out that VIII is the only one I didn't finish...somewhere in disc 3 when I was wandering the ocean looking for something, I gave up. I actually quit on X a few times, but always came back....certain things about that game drove me nuts. Like the puzzles at the temples, or the fact that you had to sit through a 10 minutes cutscene before a boss...every time, so if you died, you had to sit through that 10 minute cutscene again.

Hmmm VI being trendy, that's funny. Anyway I'm 29 started playing FF with I on the NES. VII was good, I just think that VII's story and characters were better, it was the first game that I really became immersed in. I needed to keep playing to see how the story would unfold, just like you can't put a good book down. I've played VI through to completion more than any other game except SOTN.

I agree, 4 and 6 were both great games (though I enjoyed 4 more). 7 is better than either game.

Not my favorite.

21

Here's my list:
IX
VII
VIII
VI
X
X-2

I don't know where XII fits in there yet.

VII was my first FF and it will always be up there.

I really liked IX and VIII for some reason, I don't know why.

What's with all the 26 yo's? (I'm another)

FF7 is my favorite and I'll still play it every so often, last played a game a few months ago is all. I think the appeal is a combination of a long story in a big world combined with simplicity in other areas. The materia system allowed many options while remaining relatively easy to understand. I love some other FFs but none have had the replay value to match 7 yet IMHO.

EDIT: I have 12 in the machine right now but all this FF7 talk is making me want to pop 7 back in. :)

I was a Sega guy, so Phantasy Star and Shining Force were the RPG's that I loved back then. However, I did play Chrono Trigger and that was fantastic.

I'm 29, and 7 was my first foray into the FF series. I tried 8, but that sucked. 9 wasn't bad and I went back to the older ones, but they couldn't match 7. 7 had a great story, cool characters, and fun/addicting mini games. It was a great game through the story, and had incredible replayability via the side quests and mini games.

i think i gave up on 8 around the same place, its th eonly FF i did not finish, other then 12,

personally for me i rank them like this

6>3>1=2=9>X=4=5>7=X2>8>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>tactics
