The 2 major differences were the shift from 2D to 3D which resulted in a different art style and the shift from cartridge to CD. Shifting to CD is what allowed all the FMV in the game which created initial ooh's and aaah's, but once the novelty of the pretty pictures wore off (after the 1st play through), there was the realization that there was little substance behind it all. FF7 is among the worst in the series for replay value. I hadn't played it in years, and got it from a Steam sale for PC for like $5, and I have not even come close to being able to get through it.
My favorite is FF4J. I believe most people's favorite (who have played all in the series) is FF6J.
Xenogears is the best RPG I've played. Loved that game so much.
i just hope this game isn't filled with micro-transactions.
and then this happened.
wtf. Espisodic delivery is garbage.
I'm not convinced the episodic nature of the VII remake isn't a blatant cash-grab. I need more details.
This confused me for a while so I'll state it here for anyone else confused:
Apparently the PS4 port of the game, available now, is the game in its entirety and the PS4 remake of the game is not yet available and will be episodic.
The first FF game I played was 7.
I got to the second half of FF6, and lost interest.
I don't really want to play the same thing with better graphics.
The thing is... that doesn't bother me at all. Although, I guess when you're willing to play the Dynasty Warriors sequels, that isn't very surprising.I don't mind as much if they want to tweak the story; however, to be quite frank, I'm not sure if I trust Square-Enix to do a good job with the story as their stories have gone "full-anime weird" lately. I'd also be worried that they'll simply add a lot of fluff to a game and we'll end up with an equivalent to a 12-hour corridor section!
One thing that I don't get about people wanting a new battle system is that an action-oriented systems sounds awful when you consider the game's random battles. The best part of a menu-based system is that if you get caught in an easy battle, you literally just hold down the accept button the entire time. Easy win with little effort, but just imagine all the effort that you'd have to put in with having to run around and junk.![]()
I think games like Ni No Kuni did a fantastic job for a more modern rpg combat system. But, I still love the tactics turn based systems. It is going to come down execution, and frankly, square hasn't displayed they can do that. Take Tomb Raider. I don't mind QTEs, in fact, I enjoyed them in some games (Shenmue and God of War) and they were terrible in Tomb Raider.
