can anyone explain why, in the minds of some here, the Ford Recall generates such a response and the Ferrari recall almost none?

is it acceptable for ferrari to issue a recall and unacceptable for Ford to do so?

ferrari * > ford *

the burden of proof was on fords side - they were trying to show off to ferrari, not the other way around. Ferrraris aren't know for reliability or cheap maintenance... you must be thinking honda.

Either way you're missing the point. If you buy a ferrari, you make a statement about yourself. If you buy a ford...you buy a ford.

At the same time, whose fault is it that Ford's earned a rep for fault-ridden products? It's their own fault.

The stigma might not be fair and akin to fighting an uphill battle, but they made their bed.

What statement? That you're a pompous money grabbing jackass who doesn't think it's enough to only have money, but you have to show the rest of the world that you have it too?

95% of Ferrari owners almost never drive their cars, and if they ever do, they rarely ever extract any sort of its potential.

Someone that buys a Ford GT on the other hand, is much more likely to be a car enthusiast who can actually appreciate what they have..

I would like to know where you got your figures to back up that blanket statement. Fact is, most people in this capitalistic country don't drive their exotic cars. Just because someone buys a Ferrari doesn't mean they're a pompous jackass. What makes you think people who buy Ford GTs arent pompous jackasses. You live in So Cal and you know most people here who drive 3 series BMWs are pompous jackasses too. There... blanket statement vs blanket statement. :)

maybe because people who can afford $300k cars couldn't give a crap if their cars break down? for the price of exclusivity they probably think it's worth it. and you know no one here can afford one so we all have different opinions as to what is wise to spend money and what isn't. the problem is... Ford has a stigma of unreliability stemming not from niche cars like the Ford GT but all the way down to their base level cars.

I maybe a fanboy of Ferrari or whatever, but I would get the new Mustang right now in a heart beat if i had the money I don't care what anyone thinks or says about Ford.

Funny thread, by the way.

Agreed. A car that can go 200+ MPH and the word safety should not be used in the same sentence.
nothing wrong with going 200mph under the right conditions (as in not on the highway :))

BS, Look at JD Powers, Year after Year there are many manufacturers that worse than Ford.

i'll take JD powers word over the kind of stupidity that i read on a forum to judge a car manufacturers quality control.

fact is, fords are not NEARLY as bad as most of you antiamericans make them out to be. matter of fact many years in the mid to late 90's fords were better quality wise than Nissans.

Well that reputation has to come from somewhere over the years, and its definitely not from "anti-americans" in any forum, let alone the clueless idiots here who only go by popular opinion to fit in. I wouldn't worry about their opinion at all if I were you.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

What doesn't make sense? People who can afford these expensive cars probably don't care if it's reliable or not.

Well, if we are basing all of our opinions of quality on recalls, I guess Honda sucks too...

Ignition Flaw Leads to Honda Recall

November 1, 2003
Honda is recalling about 652,000 cars, minivans and sport utility vehicles to fix an ignition system flaw. The defect could allow the vehicles to roll after they've been stopped and the keys removed, federal regulators said.

The recall affects 1997 to 1999 Acura sedans, 1998 and 1999 Accord sedans, 1999 Odyssey minivans and 2002 CRV sport utilities, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

this man is right.

And yes, when you buy a Ferrari, you are in a different class. The moron who posted that should DIAF. You buy a Ferrari 90% to show off to your friends and the rest of the world, 10% to drive it. I'll stick to good ole Benzes:p

Heh. You maybe right... this country is full of showoffs. But then again there are more Benz showoffs than Ferrari showoffs. :p

touche. Since I work in the car audio department, the main question I have to ask is what car do you have. People always tell me, "I drive a Mercedes." in a snotty fvcking tone. Then I find out its some old one or a fvcking C240!!!!!!!! I try to be cool about it, and not reply like a snob. Keeping a low profile is cool- I don't want to be a ricer. Today some kid just comes out of the blue and tells me, "Yo, my Integra will wreck your Benz, yo!" I was laughing pretty hard

Don't know many classy guys, do you?

classy != flashy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i guess you missed the sarcasm there.

someone in the Ford GT thread said that the ferrari had more "class" than the ford.

obviously that's about as stupid a statement as someone can make about cars as neither car has anything to do with class.

that would be me...

explain, oh mighty wise jackass how the ferrari lacks any class... so quick to punch...

you obviously do not have class.

7: elegance in dress or behavior; "she has a lot of class"

"Class" as you've used the word usually refers to understatment, elegance. the ferrari is anything but those things. it's extravagant and flamboyant.
