Feminism....why?

Hi guys and gals. Why are there feminists in this day and age? I mean, women have got it better than they have ever had. Sorry for the rant, but we have a bunch of them in school, yet they talk poop.

They are not true feminists. True feminists are not nazi, shaven head lesbians who want to cut of men's penises.
Call them posernists.

modern feminism is crap. it's an insult to the original feminists.

you want to know why they are that way? it's because they're ugly. i'm not kidding, go to my website and read my rant about it. ugly b!tches.

Feminism seeks equality between women and men, not just "better than it used to be." As long as gender disparity exists, so will feminism (or masculism if the balance ever tips too far).

Feminism....why?

Well, I'm a feminist because I think and feel that any sort of arcane notions of gender supremacy are both unjustified and wrong. Since the past social system relied on gender roles which allocate undue power to males with little recourse, I support feminism in its attempts to try and create a better world. Not that I agree with most of what modern-day feminazis have to say. I think those people need a good talking to to make them see reality and not some deluded fantasy world.

Cheers ! 🙂

Feminism is important to some women because there is STILL a glass ceiling in the business world, whether men want to admit it or not. Now, I'm not a "feminazi," but I am a self-proclaimed feminist (mostly from the old school of feminism). Wherein, I am NOT a lesbian and I am NOT pro-choice, but I think it is important for women to be considered equal to men...and believe it or not that is still a difficult task in some areas.

Yes, we do have it better than ever before...but it's far from perfect. America still has a ways to come on the issue.

BTW--gopunk, thanks for calling me ugly. 'preciate it.

Sarah, I'm sure gopunk meant stereotypical feminists, not all. I think a large percentage of women consider themselves feminists one way or another today. 🙂

doesn't sound like i did. i make large generalizations, and it doesn't sound like you fell under the one i made there.

It doesn't refer to physical equality, necessarily. It's about equal pay for equal work and that kind of stuff. Not abolishing naturally occurring differences, but eliminating societal limits.

I would venture to say that we're actually ahead of a lot of the world when it comes to equality for women.

MAybe b/c women still don't EARN anywhere near as much as their male counterparts in corporate America? If for nothing else, I'd be a Feminist for the money.

the ONLY way women will ever gain absolute equality (in reference to your glass ceiling stuff) is if they consistently show that they are as valuable as men. i really don't think all these nutjob feminist groups that go around and protest barbies are going to make any sort of a significant impact. they would help the feminist cause much much much more by going out there and being successful business women.

it may not be fair, but i really think that is the only way women can break that glass ceiling.

i've heard numerous reports supporting and attacking that study, but i never get to find out exactly what study that was. anybody have some info for me?

As was said...we've come far, but we've a long way to go.

Edjam: is ignorance really bliss? Please let us know since you seem to have the skinny on this enduring question.

Feminism exists because true gender equality is still nonexistant. For every female executive/politician/other position of power, there is a woman who will never be promoted beyond the glass ceiling and has her ass grabbed by her male boss on a daily basis. Women are still generally punished from an employment standpoint for having children...and then everyone bitches that kids today are f*cked up because no one was home to raise them properly. Maybe that's because the mom had to work 40 hours or more per week to avoid being fired for missing work to take care of junior. Maybe it's because women's health issues are chronically underfunded. I mean sure, there are the stereotypical buzz-cut angry females on any given college campus, but they aren't the only feminists in the world, stupid. There are also women like my wife's grandmother who served in the NC house of representatives for 25 years and authored such laws as the NC Marital Rape law....that's right, prior to that a man could do whatever the f*ck he felt like to his wife and she had no established legal basis by which to press charges. Nice huh?

I don't know if you're just trolling the group or if you are really as ignorant as it seems, but how 'bout you think a little before you pick up that keyboard next time, mmnkay?

<< uhhh what study? thats like common knowledge about the salaries, I think. >>

the 75 cents to a dollar one. "common knowledge"? no, i'd rather see the report than rely on society.

I'd rely on neither, if I were you. Reports and statistics are easily skewed and biased.

feminism is fine, but the 75cents to a dolalr thing is bs. it doesn't account for timet aken off for motherhood😛 take time off and when you come back naturally you've lost something in terms of your career😛
