I'm not a programmer but I was wondering how common it is to see women in programming? Do you guys even interact with them?

*Edit* Pic removed, because a person on ATOT actually recognized female.

ROFL

The sign to the right says "Queens College Fashion Association".

Pretty sure everyone in that pic is from that, not the Programmer's board.

# of female programmers is pretty damn small, but I figure you already knew that.

Actually the current shop I work in used to have a bunch of women who programmed. Two of them still work for me....but most have left. I would say we are very unusual though.

And what women programmers there are, they tend to be very focused and methodical. They tend not to venture into creative approaches...

For every 50 guys there's 10 girls. 5 being FOBs, 4 being unattractive, and a 1 to 1000 chance of the last one being either quirky-cute or just meh.

I just found a pic of a group of male and female programmers at a show they put together and it looks like a decent amount...

pic

since I used to study CS at Queens college, I know most of those girls are not programmers.

I recognize one of the girls, and I think she's studying biochem

yeah, female pop of programmers is really damn small. From my college days and a couple of years in the work force, I'd say we outnumber them 6 to 1 on average if not more.

It looks like a formal dance or something. I don't think those girls are all in programming...

I would estimate approximately 6-8% of them are female. Percentage of them that are hot is approximately .06%.
The percentage of hot ones that would have any interest in you is DIV BY ZERO ERROR

Would you be intimidated if a completely gorgeous woman was a better programmer than you?

6 to 1 sounds about right, maybe a little optimistic.

There's definately more in CS than in CE.

The only hot programming chick I ever met, I met in my assembler class.... other guys were like, d00d, p00n! and I was like stfu n00b and then I called SmoothMoves(); and they were like OMGWTFBBQHAX and I was like pwn3d b!tches.

Things went great until her boyfriend came back from Iraq. He was disarming carbombs on the other side of the planet and I was keeping his gf amused.... :(

she and I still study together, but.... it's strictly plutonic now.

the other girls I've seen in compsci classes, you wouldn't want to hit with a 10 foot pole
