I don't think it was nearly one of the best matches ever. Nadal was great, that's for sure. Federer played pretty Sloppy for the most part though, not making it a great match. Sure there was a lot of back and forth, but so many sloppy shots by R-Fed, and very few by Nadal.

For me, I think it was the best match simply based on drama alone. Right up there with their match last year.

But Federer also had a TON of good shots - aces, net wins, etc.

OMG I am a sad panda for not watching the last set live :(

I had to go to sleep during the last rain delay, since it was 3AM over here and I needed to go to work on the morning (I am in China)

Federer did not play sloppy. If he were playing any other opponent, he would've made way less unforced errors, he simply has to create amazing shots otherwise nadal would return the ball and roger would be in trouble.

During the match I saw countless times when roger hit a great shot, a shot that would be a winner if the opponent is anyone other than nadal, then looked dumbfounded when rafa returned a passing shot while roger rushed to the net. Nadal is simply TOO good with his groundstrokes. he probably can hit a passing shot on his knees. He is just that fit.

Roger's reign is over. Nadal is the king of tennis now.

But I sure hope roger can regroup and win a couple more majors. French is now totally out of the question for him to win.

Nadal is probably the most probable person to win all four majors in one calendar year. I think he can do it next year.

I think Nadal at his best is better than Agassi at this best.
But Sampras at this best was untouchable- worse on clay than either Nadal or Federer but better than either on any other surface.

I don't know. Nadal just turned 22 recently. I am excited to watch him in the future.

I think he is my new tennis hero as I am moving to Spain in 2 months and need some local sportspeople to cheer for

What an amazing final match. One for the ages.

Something that many people do not full realize is the extraordinary quality of play beyond what they physically see. People assume that a missed shot is a simple mistake or a winner is a simple winner. An enormous part of tennis is the mental game. Being able to keep your composure in the most stressful of situations. Federer missed some easy shots. Most of those shots were missed because he went for too much. This is a huge credit to Nadal in that he makes people go for excessive shots because often times, a shot that would beat any other player, will not beat Nadal. His speed and ability to hit incredible shots in full run and off balance puts incredible pressure on opponents to over hit and go for tight margins. Rarely do you see a match that has so many line painting, highlight reel winners. Federer hitting a corner winner with a backhand on Nadal's match point takes some incredible resolve and focus.

Another factor is hitting a shot off what is already a difficult shot to return. Nadal's power ans spin is unparalleled in tennis. Nobody in tennis history has hit the ball with as much spin as Nadal does. Anyone who has played tennis against heavy topspin knows how hard it is to strike the ball cleanly, now put it on a beaten down, unpredictable grass court. It's amazing Federer can hit the shots he hits and goes for the shots he does given the minuscule angle of attack and window of timing he is afforded.

All in all this match was amazing on so many levels. It's also not hard to state that it is a coming of age for Nadal, who at barely 22 is only starting to enter his prime. He is still riding an upward curve in his skill and ability. We have yet to see his best tennis, which is really scary.

The way Federer battled back from 2 sets down to take the match to a 9-7 fifth set was nothing short of epic, and the way Nadal kept his focus despite missing 2 chances to end the match before it got to the fifth set demonstrates how worthy a champion he is. What's even more amazing to me is that even five sets and four hours in, we were seeing massive rallies and defensive plays that you would ordinarily expect to see in the first set. That match was tennis at its most brilliant.
