FEAR works fine at high res.

I picked it up this weekend have been playing it for a couple of hours now. It's certainly playable at 1920x1200 with 2xAAA and 16HQAF with all settings on max, softshadows off. I have no intentions of playing the multiplayer so perhaps the lag is there?

I did OC my x1800xt to 700/1600 and that helped the avg FPS from 43, 49. The only "lag" is when the game is loading up new areas but turning the settings and resolution down didn't help much with that. Reading about it, that seems to a common issue.

The game itself looks quite nice but it's weird. Some areas are highly detailed and beautifully rendered yet other parts look dull. The game isn't scary, atleast to me. The guns could be better but the hitboxes are well done. The sound is AMAZING. I would rate it right with Chronciles of Riddick for the fun factor and tied with #3 on my fav. list. HL2 being number one and FarCry being two.

So if you have a x1800xt or a 7800GTX, don't worry, you'll be able to play FEAR at high resolution. It's definately worth playing through.

What monitor are you using?

I jumped on that Dell 2005FPW deal, so my next video card only has to do 1680x1050.

I have not read much about FEAR online play, have you tried it?

Dell 2405FPW. I don't care for FEAR online play, CS:S and BF2 are plenty.

FEAR to me is evidence to me that Sierra can only make one game, over and over.

For Christs sake, when will they get past the idea we all want to shoot soldiers with machine guns?!?!?!?

The last three games I bought:

Q4>>>>>>>>>>>Serious Sam2>>FEAR

As far as being "spooky" goes, the few cut scenes I saw were the only cool part. I didn't get very far before quitting, but I don't really care about Paxton Fettel and his psychic super soldiers.

More paranormal, less mundane please.

Yeah, I only have 1 gig for now. Will look into getting 2 gigs. Should help out BF2 also. Thanks for the tip.

I'm liking it so far. I get bored quickly of running aroud aimlessly just shooting things. A good story line is equally as important to me as killing things. So far the screenplay is quite good and immersive. The AI on soilders is quite cool. You have to think and plan your attack instead of just running out there and out gunning them, like you can in most games.

I'm going to get Quake 4 after I'm done with FEAR. SS2 has no appeal to me. It looks to cartoonish.

BTW, the latest patched fixed the HDR blocky issues on x1800's for Serious Sam2, for those reading this.

F.E.A.R. sure wasnt running well enough for me on a single GTX at 1920x1200, not even close. It and CoD2 is what "made" me get another GTX.

SS2 is cartoonish, in a Duke Nuke'm sort of way. Mindless fun, blast wave of aliens.

Quake 4 owns all this year for me, I like the single and multiplayer.

Get the 7800GTX 512 perhaps???
Runs fine on my x1800xt besides the minor issue I mentioned.

You need more RAM d00d.

I'm surprised you can even put up with FEAR on 1 GB.

meh for me fear >>>>>>>>>q4, q4 was just boring and too old fashioned, with very annoying and stupid vehicles to boot:p i liked how atleast when u did get into a fight it felt like your weapons had real interaction with the enemies and enviroment.

Quake 4 better than FEAR?
i haven't beat either game, actually got halfway in FEAR before the laptop crashed, so i have it installed on my new machine and gotta find the cheat to load the 5th level.
and im on the first level of Q4
but uh, so far, its Doom 3.5, seriously...
its way to scripted... we'll see how the story line goes, but i actually like the FEAR storyline

They're clone soldiers :) and FEAR is best FPS game of the year if u ask me, best graphics and gameplay.

Also there was more than machine gun, I liked the flak-cannon, nail gun and the particle cannon just ownz ppl and turn them into fried skeletons.

But a Shogo 2 for their next line-up would be nice.

Quake 4 single player was way too easy, it was just nothing but STRAFE in CIRCLE and keep firing non-stop. And the most advanced Strogg technology is suppose to be a brain?? WTF

The graphics/sound was the only good part of that game. Multiplayer is same as Quake 3 so I can't comment on that.

FEAR on the other hand requires much more challenge because u can't just run around like in circle other wise u will be killed quick. Storyline and ending is a cliffhanger in a good way. And I think Graphics are better than Quake 4 in in terms of looking realistic, Quake 4 models looks like plastic figures. And Quake 4 has to make dead bodies and decals dissapear fast in order to run smoothly, FEAR engine doesn't have to do that.

Sierra didn't make FEAR, Monolith did http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/fear/index.html?q=fear

The more I play, the more I'm impressed. Besides the graphics, the sound and computer AI really make it worth playing more. The guns/recoil could use a little work but still quite good.

Q4 i didnt even bother finishing... just got really bored of it really, and to be honest im really not all that impressed by the graphics.

FEAR on the other hand had some nice finishing touches, graphics were good but not astonishing, but the gameplay and storyline was the best ive played.

In terms of graphics for Q4 its good, but i just never got that feeling of "Wow!" with it, it just didnt shake me like when i saw Far Cry, Splinter Cell 3, Chronicles of Riddick and FEAR.
