Overall I approve, I really liked the music.
I admit nobody bothering to check out the Church is silly. Especially after the adult guy goes in & there is a huge pool of blood but no body or parts left over, where did she go?
What was up with the panicked guy who disappeared?

Government cover up? Or a Lorie's corpse happened and Gloria went to town on every body before they turned... somehow. Can't imagine 5 of them just walking away into LA going unnoticed.

Yeah, that & not shooting him in the head when he came back to life jawless...why were none of them freaking out?? I know they're confused, but come on...they just ran over their son's friend, who they were on good terms with, and they just kind stand around like ¯\_(&#12484_/¯

So how did gloria become a zombie? Did she OD? Or was the knife in her chest how she died or was that afterwards? They alluded to bad things happening in that area...

I kinda assumed she OD and died, then turned.

for someone who loved walking dead at fist, but then started to think it sucked, then completely dropped it mid season during season 4, would this new show be something that is worth watching? or is it more of the same bullshit drama that the walking dead turned into with a bunch of stupid people that you just don't care if they die or not?

I watched none of the previews and was hoping for great things, but the pilot could really have been so much more. I don't care too much about this family or their drug addict son, I wanted more back story on the development of the virus, where it came from, how it spread, etc. This is more drama shit, like all these reality shows nowadays. I don't see why I should care about this family in particular.

Hard to tell, it feels very similar to the walking dead.

I agree completely. I thought the whole purpose of having this show start with the very beginning of the epidemic was so we could get some of the backstory that the TWD completely ignored. Personally, I think that's going to happen but that doesn't seem to be the prevailing opinion.

If this ends up just following the same format as the original, I don't see this show developing the same sort of following as TWD. I'm sure AMC will milk it for all its worth and that may be a lot, but it's not going to get and keep the same sort of ratings. TWD developed it's characters over 5 years and the acting is so much better than what I've seen with this show. I'm sure it will make money for them but it's not going to be nearly as good.

They keep talking about not many kids being in school but where are they? Are they zombies or just sick? Why doesn't anyone know about that yet? seems like doctor offices/hospitals would be inundated with sick kids?

Agreed.

I thought it was awful and could've EASILY been compressed to 1 hour, but I'm sure the additional advertising revenue was just too much to pass up.

I'll watch the next couple of episodes to see if it gets better, but if I only had this episode to judge the series on, it isn't looking good at all.

Yeah things feel a bit scattered right now. I felt like the family story with the druggie kid was pretty distant, but then it's like it's really important, but they don't really make you care about it all that much. I dunno. We'll see if it picks up. If nothing else, it's something to tide us over until October :awe:

I would think if you hate The Walking Dead, there's really no point in watching Fear the Walking Dead.

I'm hoping this series is more akin to World War Z, where it shows things like military action failing to deal with the situation effectively because the scale of the issue is simply unprecedented.

If they keep the timeline really tight as in each episode happens a day or two apart, it could be very interesting to watch the fall of society, especially in a place like Los Angeles. TWD kind of glossed over all that other than a few episodes where they were inside Atlanta and saw the aftermath.

I really hope they ramp it up pretty fast. The slow simmer exposition really didn't do it for me.

You're missing the point here. Zombie or no zombie, if your son runs over his friend (repeatedly) in Dad's pickup truck, you don't look at your wife and she look at you and all you can manage is a shrug. I was OK with the show up until that final scene ... I mean, seriously !?? Hell, I could act out that scene better than they did.

Maybe that's what THEY want but it's hard for me to see this show going anywhere if it's just a rip off of the original. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will watch it regardless but I don't see this show getting 6M+ viewship like TWD if they don't do something different with it.

I mean think about it. There are only so many types of conflict you can have in a zombie apocalypse and TWD has covered all of those many times over. At a certain point all you're left with is the soap opera drama and I don't see that being enough for most fans.

Plus this cast doesn't look nearly as strong as the season one TWD cast.

If what they're going to focus on is the way in which civilization falls apart, that's fine. That can work. They might even be able to stretch that out over 2 seasons. But ultimately you end up with a situation identical to what you have in the original. You need conflict for a show like this to work and unless they're going to give us different types of conflict, why bother watching it?
