No, I mean, that's what I like about it - it's fleshing out the "what happens after?" question, while still being a fun zombie show.

Ah yes, agreed. The benefit of being a series and not just a two hour film.

This last half since the season break has been pretty slow. The Tyrese episode was almost artsy. I wish they'd put more drama into every episode like the last one. But I also know it's really difficult since they don't have a final season in mind, so you end up with a product like Lost - starts out really strong, gets extended, now the writers are under pressure to fill time, so the episode quality becomes hit & miss.
The writers aren't under pressure to fill time. There are plenty of comics story arcs to go and Kirkman already has many more ideas in the hopper.

The problem is too MUCH "drama". Sadly true drama only occurs if I care about any of the characters... in TWD, all the characters are pretty much expendable and horrible. I don't really care for any of them.

I'm hoping this new series, assuming it starts at the outbreak is a little more action and substance versus (attempting to be) character driven. Because the latter is not working for TWD.

Yeah, I can see that. And I think they should have kept the focus on Rick...plus the stuff with the Governer got a little drawn out for my tastes, and I really wanted Andrea off the show long before she was killed off.

Yep, definitely not working, with their faltering ratings and all ..... 😉

I do agree with you though on the new series, maybe it will set up where you can get the best of each world, different approaches in the two series.

If Andrea had died in the first episode, I would never have complained about anything on this show. She was atrociously awful. Easily the character I have hated most of any character in any tv show or movie, by a very wide margin.

Nah, I don't think so - iirc one of the producers said they wanted to draw the series out for as long as humanly possible & make a zillion episodes (which they can do, in theory), and since they're (loosely) trailing the comics, they kind of have to fill up time. The episodes have been pretty low-action/low-drama since the break. The season finale was really good but didn't end on much of a cliffhanger. I wish they made every episode grab you like the first couple of seasons did.

Yeah, but I think she served a purpose, almost a Benedict Arnold since she didn't stop the Governor (twice)...and it wasn't a good kind of hate on her character, like ooh I hate that bad guy, it was the kind where you just want her to be off the show because she's so boring & they kept focusing on her.

Also, definitely not my most hated character. Umbridge from HP takes the cake for that one

Well, that's the thing with getting invested in shows - as long as they throw in at least a few really good episodes, you'll keep watching because you liked it in the first place.

I do agree with the guys on the Talking Dead show, they should really do 90-minute episodes every week...that way, even in the slower episodes, they'd be able to lay more groundwork & do more intricate things with the politics that could become explosive later.

?

I didn't watch Harry Potter.

Couldn't they just have finished the series? This is annoying. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were done right. This is just gimmicky.

I'm actually surprised at how good Better Call Saul is turning out to be...usually spinoffs are pretty terrible, but after the second or third episode, it had me hooked

First season was amazing. I got two episodes into season 2 and was done with the series. Just got boring. Not necessarily bad but it was too big a departure from what it was promising. Became too much of an interpersonal drama rather than post-apocalyptic horror. I get that it's following a the comic, but I think there was a lot of missed opportunity to take the story in a better direction.

Are you kidding? The drama is WHY the show works. It's not just a zombie show, it's a world where people are more feared than zombies. In my book, that twist is a lot more interesting.

Yeah, I think you're right - it's about the human interaction & obstacles they face, rather than just "zombies are coming to eat you".

I think that's one of the reasons I really liked Shaun of the Dead - the focus wasn't so much the zombies, as much as the character's hilarious reactions to the situations they were in. Like the opening scene where Pegg is hung over & ignoring the world around him as he goes to get a snack & watch TV

They don't need to fill up time. There is plenty of material to go on for many seasons. The only filler will be the directors' pet projects.

It's kind of funny how much people complain about drama.

We are talking about a TV show, about a post-apocalypse scenario.

Please tell me how you can have anything BUT drama if you wish to have a multi-season show?

We are especially talking about a story that is following that of a book (albeit comic book, this of the more serious "graphic novel" style really), which should have clued everyone into the fact that this was going to be about characters.

You can't have a comic book that seemingly goes on forever about an I Am Legend scenario where it's just one character, his dog, and fumbling around tying to live and perhaps figure out what to do. Any of you actually plan to watch a show that follows that format for season after season?

I didn't think so. You'd get bored so fast.

Drama is the soul of TV. You can only have apocalypse-driven narratives with minimal character development in the movie format, and most don't do well, you still need drama and personal challenges.

I won't argue that sometimes TWD takes too long of a stroll or focuses on a particular scenario for too long of a stretch at different times, it is not perfect. I personally enjoy it, but it is not without its faults.

That said, it is exactly what I expected, perhaps because I understand how these things work?

The first season was sort of a tease in the wrong direction, but it was a great setup. However, if every season followed the format of the first season, this show would not have kept up ratings.

I'm also curious if they're going to meet up at some point...maybe Eugene discovers a cure or something thanks to their help.

Eugene has no ability or desire to make a cure. He had a lie to help save himself, that was it. He's barely functional on his own, and is just now being shown to be capable of potentially have a pair of balls on him. His story line of a cure was nothing but a ruse, there will never be a cure that comes from him.

I dunno, I think there's a possibility:

1. He's still alive. And so is Abraham, his bodyguard. Why?

2. They are near DC, and in theory, DC would have the last stronghold for the president, military, and remaining scientists & CDC people.

3. Maybe an anarchist group set off the virus. Which means they may have developed a cure to ride it out. And Eugene is a pretty smart dude, so he might be able to cobble the pieces together to make an aerosol-detonated spray.

some of you just need to not watch. Seriously if something bothers you that much why the hell are you wasting your time?

Exited for this! Wonder if they are gonna go head to head time slot wise with GOT or start right when thats over.

Same.

I don't have HBO so I'm fine with a head-to-head death match showdown.

I'm excited. But then again i still love TWD so. And what TV show doesnt have drama in it? That is what TV is basically is drama 24x7 no matter the show you watch.
