Actually it can be as long as 6 months.
HIV is a threat of course, but its not as prevailant as the scare tactics would like to make you think. The ratio nationwide is something like 1 in 200 people....but understand that low-income city areas and the homosexual male community have hella more than the rest of the country.
It is also stopped by a condom.

But yeah, I wouldnt do anything with a dirty either... My girlfriend and I were actually both V's when we started dating, so we have nothing to worry about at all...

That's really the only way you can be safe....my longtime HS girlfriend was a hardcore slut before me(heh and with me too....just with me though), but she was clean, whereas a (female) friend of mine had slept with one guy, and has HPV.

eno818, they still recommend that you get tested as late as 6 months after possible exposure. The tests also don't pick up the virus, but rather the antibodies produced by your body to try to fight the virus.

Oral is very low risk. Yes, there is a risk, but it is low. Basically, the person performing the act has to have an open wound in their mouth, which needs to come in contact with the sexual juices of the other. It is not spread through saliva.
