The censorship is inherently built into the market. So, further censorship is extraneous.

You can't watch your child 24.7, everyone with children knows that. But the responsibility does not fall on everyone else, to fill thoes gaps.
There are plenty of devices we have today that can limit what your childred can take in from a certain source.
Beyond that is your responsibility, there are absolutly no excuses.

 
If you're worried about what your kids might see on TV, don't get TV. It's not like it's essential to life or function by any means.

We could before. Cable TV stations are not censored by the FCC. Only broadcast television is censored.
 
I used to use the F word... A LOT. I was about 17. Now it'd be weird if I used it 5 times a year.

I think it's a bit crude to be using it on primetime tv channels. There's no good reason for it. Maybe the writers will get their jollies from using it for the first few weeks and that'll be the end of it.
 
i think they shouldn't edit it out from movies that originally use them cuz it sounds retarded and everyone with a brain knows what's going on. Prime time TV, that's weird. I use the F word a lot right now, it's somethign I know ill grow out of, but since I'm a teen, that's what i do 🙂 I can't imagine sitting down at the dinner table and hearing the simpsons saying the F word or something like that.

These 'family advocacy' groups need to realize it's not the word itself that's bad, it's the way it's used. I hate that I am growing up in a world where people actually think saying a word is a sin or bad in any way.
 
I think once you have kids and grow up a bit, your views on no censoring will change. You can't tell me letting a kid see and hear filth and garbage does not have any effect on them. Like most of you point out, a child will run into this sort of stuff eventually, but I don't want a kid to think it is acceptable behavior. By the reasoning in this post, you should hand the kid a loaded gun right as he will eventually be able to have one. The fact is children need and even crave guidance, and yes cursing is not the end of the world, but it is the beginning of lack of respect for yourself and those around you. Flame away. 😉
 
In an ideal world, this wouldn't be an issue. There would be no censorship and individual channels/networks would learn to cater to various demographics. Some would use profanity or have sex knowing that is what their viewers want to see while others would keep it tame knowing that is NOT what their viewers want to see. Individual viewers could vote with their remote and all would be good...
Of course, parents should take more responsibility of their children and utilize proper parental controls over certain channels more often. Or better yet, not let their young children watch TV on their own.

I agree.

However, the responsibility for your child begins with you as the parent. It does NOT take a village to raise a child, it just takes 2 responsible parents.

Otherwise, I side with Robert A. Heinlein and his opinion on this issue:
"Censorship is forcing grown men to drink skim milk because the baby can't eat steak."
 
i always agree with heinlein. the fcc is annoying with this crap. they slap fines on radio left and right but they dont give a damn what tv does.
they f-ing stink.

exactly. blantant use of profanity shows how crude, immature, and ignorant our culture has become. sure in some settings it can add in an artistic way, or it can be funny when neffing around somewhere like this and being stupid. i cant think of anything on network TV that would actually benefit from the use of profanity. i think one glance at todays entertainment shows how our culture has lost sight of this, and caters to the lowest common denominator. hows the saying go? profanity is the crutch of the ignorant?

and for those saying stop sheltering your kids: 90% of all the stupid, selfish, rude people that you bitch about every day are a product of homes where the children werent sheltered from such things that they werent mature enought to handle yet. in my brief 30yrs, everyone i know who has screwed up their life had such parents with that attitude. the parents that did shelter them until they were mature enough to handle such things are mostly well adjusted, productive people.

i agree 100% its the parents job to keep mature things away from children, and ill throw the tv out if i have to. but just remember most parents wont, and the children they release into the world will grow up to contribute and run this country, maybe even be responsible for taking care of you. but hey, let em know it all, who cares, they just gonna do it anyway, right.


id bet money the view on this would split children/no children, young/old.
