I think you missed the point altogether. The fact is that while a majority of immigrants coming to this country are simply seeking a better life there are those who come here with the intention of killing Americans. Whether or not all of these same people would be denied admission because of terrorist ties or criminal records remains to be seen. I'd rather we secure the borders and at least make an attempt to stop them from getting here in the first place.

In a BBC news broadcast today, Miami Herald reporter Mani Garcia remarks that the government's arrest of seven men in connection with a 'plot' to blow up the Sears Tower is probably overblown.

"They've been described to us by sources as 'wannabes' -- still to be determined if making a connection about talking about doing an attack and and being able to finance an attack," Garcia said. "We've seen previous cases where the Federal government has announced with great hoopla breaking terrorist cells. And when you start deconstructing a case, you see that there's a lot of talk."

Reports on CNN and MSNBC from neighbors state that the group was formed as an alternative to the crime and violence in the area. One woman, a sister of one of the men arrested, said they were a religous group helping the community. The warehouse was described by the residents in the area as a place where the men went to pray.

Also, the indictment says the FBI informant had to furnish the camera and a rental van so they could take pictures of the targets.


This really sounds a sh*tload like that railroading of that guy in New York where two FBI informants posed as weapons seller/buyer and stuck some poor schmuck in the middle.

I'm not going to disagree with you about our need to secure our borders. Doing so only makes sense. But logically thinking, somebody who was entering the country with terrorism in mind would want to do so legally so as to avoid drawing unnecessary attention or limiting their operations. This is how terrorists work. They use our very own rights and liberties as weapons against us. Once they enter legally and gain the protections of our constitutional freedoms they are less hindered. To enter the country illegaly is to automatically limit how free you are to move and operate within the country's borders. It is one more obstacle that could get in the way of the terrorist succeeding in his mission because he is always having to look over his shoulder. Statistically speaking I'd think the terrorist who enters the country legally stands a better chance at operating successfully and the terrorists know this for the most part. So secure the borders and keep illegals out, yes. By all means! I don't see how we can afford not to. But we can't be fooled into thinking that securing our borders makes us very much safer from terrorist attack. Maybe a little bit, but not a lot. We have to have more thorough and stringent entry requirements and background checks on people who enter legally as well.

Anyway, great news. Who knows how many lives might have been saved by this bust?
