This is all I heard in the preseason... where are those people now? I'm not saying he's going to carry them to the SB, but at least eat a little crow and give the guy some respect.
 
Honestly, I've been saying it for the past few years. He was not playing well. The last two years:

2005

I've always had respect for his career accomplishments, but his past few seasons have not been good. This year he seems to have turned things around, helped by a defense that's finally coming together. More power to him, but I don't regret calling for his retirement the last two years.

Yes his last seasons have been subpar... then again we're talking about THIS season. The past is the past in the NFL. Ask Pittsburgh last year, or San Diego this year.

What's your point? Up until the start of the season, there was no indication that this year was going to be any different for the Packers than the past two years. Their 4-0 start is a shock even to most loyal fans.

Clearly if he keeps up his current level of play, he shouldn't retire. I don't know how much he has left in the tank, but it's nice that he has a chance to leave on a high note.
 
I've been saying it for two years now too. Are you saying that even GB fans thought he would have a good year this year? Lets be serious, I know he's regarded as the 2nd coming of Jesus up there, but no one expected a resurgence like this.

Also, my sentiments that he should retire referred to him wanting to win big again, and the long-term future of developing Aaron Rodgers, rather than his own ability.

It will be interesting to see if he keeps it up all season, considering his age and the fact that defenses are gunning for him, as the Packers have 0 running game.

btw what does "eat crow" actually mean? I've never heard that phrase outside of internet forums, and it never made much sense to me.
 
You cant really blame him for his poor performances the last two years though. Pretty much everyone else on his team blew, and he ended up trying to "make something happen" far too many times, resulting in the interceptions. He wouldnt have made those throws if his team didnt suck so badly.
 
Farve is a gun-slinger. He leads the NFL is career touchdown throws, but he's also a lock to break the record for INTs. The difference between this year and the last few is that the defense has emerged as a force and that he has a number of viable receiving options. Because his D has stepped up, I think he feels less pressure to make the big play and take the team on his shoulders. That means fewer INTs, better decision-making.

Being a Vikings fan I can defend Favre pretty easily.

1. The O-line wasn't great the last 2 years.
2. The rest of the receivers were mediocre and Favre was trying to push it to get something going
3. They had a flurry of coaches who had to get used to Favre and he had to get used to them. Considering he had been with Holmgren for a while, it was quite a change.

Favre may look old in some pictures, but he's still rather young and in *very* good shape. When I was at Disney in 05 I saw him up close, I shook his hand. He had a lot of grey hair, but the dude was in very good shape for his age.

I have always said that Favre is a great QB, easily top 10 even now. However, as with any QB, he has to have a line and some good receivers. You put him behind a crappy line and he's going to get rushed. You give him sub-par receivers, he will get picked.

I personally think he has another 2-3 years, if not 5, in him and I wouldn't doubt he'll go to the playoffs every year. Is he a Brady or Manning? No, but then again, those two teams are stacked with insane talent.
 
imright here. I wanted him to retire to enter the HOF already. I never expected a year like this out of GB. Honestly I am routing for him more than i am my own team. I'd love to see farve get a ring. That and i hate brady!

When someone has multiple crap seasons of course people think they should be gone. Just because jim smith has a solid year doesnt mean he doesnt suck ass the other 90% of the time.

People don't often think about it like this but a defense can make a QB better. If you are constantly playing catch up and the opposition knows you are going to pass the ball every single time then chances are you will be picked more often, have more incomplete passes, sacks, etc.

Then again, the Packers can't run for shit this year and I would assume all of the defenses know this as well. Maybe they just haven't played anyone. 😛

lol, I think his current performance is proving the analysis correct. It's hard to debate with a 4-0 record when we are sitting on 1-3 with an offense that has more in common with a retirement community than a football team.

I'll admit, I was one of the many who said that he should retire. And based on his last 2 seasons you can't blame anyone who said that. It's good to see that he's playing an awesome game now.

Although since their team was crap the past few years, he had to throw a ton to make shit happen, and when you throw a lot, INT's follow.

I agree. I also said he should retire, but it had nothing to do with favre himself. I said he should retire so that the team could start completely rebuilding around a new QB. I never doubted favre's ability. I just knew that his team blew, and it was a good time to start over from scratch.
