wow... so many games I played with stellar soundtracks.

Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy II
Castlevania IV
F-Zero
Morrowind
Diablo II
Age of Mythology
Super Ghouls & Ghosts

So many more... It's amazing the impact of listening to some of these older games. A lot of feelings brought back by hearing some of them again.

For $6 at your local big lots, you should try it... great game by the way that just happens to have great soundtrack.

Not that they are necessarily good in this day of age, but the most memorable at the time was:

1) Shadow of the beast (1989 on an Amiga) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...qUPPro&feature=related (see 2:30 minutes in) I can remember this game from the music and its been 20 years!

2) M.U.L.E (1983 c64) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6L6MhSgpgo (back when EA was a good game company!)

My favorite top 3 would have to be:

The Chronicles of Riddick - Escape from Butcher Bay
Advent Rising
Top Gear Overdrive (music by GRiNDSToNE - Awesome band)

Mass Effect, Max Payne 2, and Metal Gear Solid 2 get solid merit.

I really recommend the Chronicles of Riddick sound track...award winning and free for download:

I know I'm forgetting a few...

Unfortunately, so many newer scores are very cookie-cutter and derivative of older titles... If you make a WWII game, it's basically "include bombastic" theme here, add melodramatic interlude here etc. -- all of which are pretty much close variations on Metal of Honor themes. I would have put GOW and Killzone here, but those scores, while good, are unoriginal to the upteenth level.

Going to add two scores I haven't seen mentioned... Perfect Dark Zero and No One Lives Forever.

Deus Ex
Descent II These are all mislabelled. Several of them are from the expansion, Vertigo.
Shattered Steel A game like MechWarrior also by Interplay.
Sub-Terrania A Genesis game where you fly around caves in a spaceship. Impressive graphics and music, but hard game. Music by Jesper Kyd.

The Descent II and Shattered Steel ones I used to play in the CD-ROM drive (back in the day when they had Play buttons) on my computer all the time.
