For what I think of the sport sedan market like BMW 335i. I would list these 3 as my top 3 choices:

C63 AMG, 335I, Audi S4. All comparable in price.

C63 AMG is considerably higher than the 335i/S4.

C63 AMG starts at $63k
S4 starts at $48k.
335i starts at $43k.

I agree with the rest of your post. S4 is the EVO for grownups.

09+ CTS-V are in the 40k + aren't they?

I love my 2009 335i .. black/black, 6manual, AWD, 4 door, sports, navi, premium, etc got it for 22k and she haaaaauls ass.

I'm aware of where the C63 starts but if you option out the S4/335i they are pretty comparable in price (5-6,000 difference which is not a lot). The c63 comes with more features up front than either car, particularly the 335i which is just stupid how much cost you add on to it in order ot option it comprably to the s4.

I have an 13 s4 myself. I could have easily got into a c63 without speding that much more if I could handle RWD.

The 335 was never an option as the performance wasn't high enough stock for me for the price. And the moment you add the X-Drive you get a car that does not handle near as well as the RWD version.

How many miles on the 335i?

In terms of pure acceleration the 335i should be as good as the C63 and the S4, no?

I haven't drive the first two, but I have driven the '11 S4 and it didn't really stand out to me. Very fast but still felt like driving a sedan. Also the shifter felt very clumsy to me.

really? I had a 09 135i and it feels like it handles similarly...and feels stronger around corners with the front end helping out... 135i was a sport package as well, so it was a little lower, and tighter.

My 335i has about 55k on it.

The 335i XDRIVE is a few fractions of a second faster then the S4 QUATTRO...stock as well.

The 135i is a lot smaller than the 335i - it did better in the handling department on size alone.

Also I'd love to know where you get this ifnormation on the 335i x drive. I'm not a big car magazine guy but check here:

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=705018 - S4 hit 12.9 1/4 mile and the 335i hit 13.5.

Overall the 335i pretty much averages low to mid 13's. There are quite a few 12 second 1/4 mile particulalry on the DSG tranmissission. As for the X Drive - it changes the suspension geometry dramatically. head on over to bimmerpost if you'd like to see a few examples.

Overall there is a reaosn why the s4 is generally considered in a class of it's own for this gen. it falls in between the 335 and m3 in terms of price/perofmance.

As for the c63 it's a high 11/low 12 second car. So no defintiely not same performance.

I meant the 335 ix feels stronger on the corners.

I don't read magazines either, and I just go here to compare:
zeroto60times.com

2009 BMW 335i Coupe 0-60 mph 5.0 Quarter Mile 13.8
2012 BMW 335i Sedan 0-60 mph 4.6 Quarter Mile 13.1
2013 BMW 335i M Sport Sedan 0-60 mph 4.5 Quarter Mile 13.1

2010 Audi S4 0-60 mph 5.2 Quarter Mile 13.7

not a lot of info on the S4 on the site apparently....but I am sure other sites get different results.

When I was looking at 335ix vs s4, i did test drive a few S4's and they didn't feel as fun..shrug. I also like the interior more on the 335...especially the sport seats.

I saw a '09 with 30k for $39k. 6 speeds are hard to find..autos are all over.

I was trying to point out that feel is subjective. A lot of that varies with the power curve. if it's more linear it feels like it pulls less hard etc... Handling is the same too. The X drive actually severely limits the handling of the 335 compared to the I/M Sport.

Also funny thign about those numbers the audi has a 5.2 0-60 but somehow has a faster 1/4 than 2009 335i coupe who ran a 5.0. That makes no sense as the audi would win off the line due to traction and lose more up top.

Anyway people should drive liek they want but in general if you take a look at sites with posted time slips the S4 is about .3-.5 faster than a stock 335i. That changes when you tune of course. Also best numbers to cmopare woudl be autos as they are most consistent. Can't tell if you posted the m6.

I liked the idea of the BMW but the X just did not have the same feel as the 335i I drove. And when I Could get an S4 AWD for same price was a no brainer for me. I hope BMW improves the AWD in years to come. Especially with MB going AWD on the c63.

How well do they accelerate when that high pressure fuel pump quits working?

Psssssssssssssssssssssh, as long as I am going fast enough to coast to the dealer when it takes a dive =D.

Yeah, that zerotosixty site is subjective, you can look at slips and you'll see different numbers. I just like the feel of the 335i with x more, just feels right. We don't have a lot of massive twisties here in MN, but when I was coming home from SC, through NC/Virginia/TN it was very twisty in the smokeys...I was able to rock around those corners going a little too fast!

I still stand by I love my 335ix over my 135i ... also adds a bit of comfort come winter too. Last year with Winter tires, the 135i slipped like a beast, just didn't want to do it another year without AWD. I had a A4 2.0T QUATTRO for 4 years, and wanted to try the infamous RWD of BMW ... It was awesome, but really missed AWD.

Put anything on the C63 AMG and the price rises quite quickly too! 🙂 (I changed the color and added the Navigation package and it came out to $70k).

I only mentioned price, but I should have also mentioned power. 451hp is a good chunk more than the 335i/S4. Between price and power, I don't think people cross shop a C63 AMG with the 335i/S4. C300 is more the level of the 335i/S4.

At least in my mind, M3/M4/RS5 would be more the level of the C63 AMG.

I've got an S4 myself (2011).

Honestly, I'd love to have a car like that but I drive too many miles commuting. Give me the low cost high mpg comfortable eco sedan any day. I own the right car for the type of driving I do.

you think they'd drop 20k in 2 years? seems a bit optimistic, in 2 years, probably see them around 30k.

I've seen 34k for them around here... that is with around 50k miles.

Add two years, add 30k miles, I don't see what 25k is out of the question. With that said, I'm in MN, so they're not the most practical year round car for most... tougher sell here than AZ, FL, etc

yeah, local also has a big deal with it ... who knows, I could be 100% wrong, they may drop to 20-25k easy!
