1984.

Madonna appears on the radio for the first time.
Springsteen hits it big with Born in the USA
Bananarama Cruel Summer
Footloose
Cyndi Lauper
1984, Van Halen.
Purple Rain
Wham!
Tears for Fears
Thompson Twins
Duran Duran

1984 was probably the high point for 80s music.

Indeed although you missed some.......(Van Halen 1984...listening to "Panama" while sittin' in my folks' jacuzzi in the summer of '84) But there's more.....Being So Cal born & raised....

The '84 Summer Olympics
Randy Newman's "I Love LA"
Hulkamania at its peak
Phil Collins entering the peak of his AWESOMENESS unparalelled except by maybe Chuck Norris.
Terminator
Sixteen Candles
Nightmare on Elm Street
Karate Kid
Amadeus
Chicks in high school were entering their prime
Sneaking out at night & taking about 20 minutes to quietly sneak out my buddy's dad's 280ZX from his garage and cruising a couple cities' worth of distance & feeling like the king of the world. (UNDER-aged, mind you)

Shit.......this is actually quite depressing. I do believe 1984 may have possibly been the best year of my life.

(Obligatory: "minus the birth of my kids of course")

1984 was quite awesome. Only eclipsed by 1977 in terms of cultural awesomeness.

1987 was probably the best year of my life tho.

My sole 1980s memory is the Loma Prieta quake of '89 in San Francisco. I remember that thing lasted like two minutes.
