Fat people should pay for two seats on a flight.

First class seats look larger. If I was a fat guy I'd just upgrade to that (depending on how fat) instead of paying for 2 seats.

Yes they should but then they should get 2 seats where the armrest goes up in between them. To be fair, they should have a fake seat (liek the box you put your carry-on in). You sit in the seat and if you hang over the edge, then you have to buy two.

I paid for my seat and noone can cross that invisible barier into my seat. If they want to let their blubber flow over 20% of my space, they can pay for 20% of my ticket.

Ok also, imagine in an emergency on a 737 or A319. The fat people would plug the small emergency exits on the wings. I can just picture them with their torso plugging the exit, kicking their legs, in a comical fashion.

Do you think fat people should pay for they extra space? Why or why not?

LMFAO, that is really mean :/

It's not mean at all. This CAN/WILL/ happen (ed).
Consider this: Chinese airlines will NOT allow foreigners to sit next to emergency exit windows. They say this is justified because the foreigner may not understand instructions given by flight crew in case of an emergency. Now, this also applies with fat people. We don't want fat people plugging the emergency exit windows!!!!! That would be bad.

I've been on flights, here in the US, where they've moved "foreigners" out of the exit row because they didn't understand english.

If they enacted the pay for 2 seat issue...I wonder how much money the airlines would lose. I imagine that some people just would no longer fly.

Going by the seats I've been in.. the "airline" average size must be 5'2" 100#... hence anyone over that would require 2 or more seats.

Why don't airlines just use bigger seats and charge more for them? Instead of 100 people paying $300 a piece... say put 75 people on the plane and charge.. $400 a piece.

I think more people would be open to that instead of having to fork out $600 or $1200 for first class.

I have a bigger issue with cell phones on planes. Do you really need to talk to your buddies as soon as the wheels hit the ground....gimme a break... there are only a handful of people I would consider that important. At least wait until we're in the terminal.

Edit for my lack of typing skills 🙂

I flew from Atlanta to Salt Lake City back in July. I had to sit next to a guy that was at least 350. He was so large that the armrest in the middle had to be retracted for him to be comfortable. Of course, I'm 6'4 and 220.....I barely fit on a plane myself....

I believe First Class is there for a reason if you have the dough to spend. (of course my trips are usually business related so I don't have that luxury) The people who are obviously obese should at least have to pay an increased amount of money to haul their weight to the destination and they should have a special section with seats designed for them. Everyone would be more comfortable and plane tickets would be rated according to weight....much the way shipping in general is.

I think sometimes those fatties just gotta pay, lol. Richard Simmons has failed them.

Hehe, but seriously, one time I was on a flight, and I got sandwiched right next to this fat guy. He was tall and fat, but he carried a special "extender" seatbelt that allowed it accomodate his girth. He made light of his own weight, and joked about it, and in the end everything was cool during the flight.

First class > two coach seats

Why not? Aside from the obvious discomfort caused to other passengers in the near vacinity of an overweight person that overflows into other seats, being overweight has economic effects as well. It takes more fuel, and thus more money, to carry a fat ass across the country, so why shouldn't they pay more? That's not discrimination. It's no different than charging more to people that consume more food at a restaurant.

See my previous post - Airlines do not have such logic for their ticket prices. Theoretically, I should have to pay less for shorter flights right? But nooooooooooo, I have to pay almost a thousand for round tripper to a city 250 miles away.

Why would you pay $1000 to avoid 3-1/2 hour drive? $300/hr +/- to drive sounds good to me.
