You know what? You guys are right. I couldn't definitely see them becoming professional athletes. That's far more likely that leaving the bacon and cheese off their hamburger...

Bacon and cheese are less of a problem than leaving the bun on. :p

why is that such a difficult suggestion

Because overtraining is bad. And suggesting someone who is in no shape at all suddenly go spend 3 hours in a gym is completely asinine.

I'm not in amazing shape, but spending 3 hours lifting weights/running sounds like pure misery and a way to take 5 steps back in muscle development progress.

Telling someone that they should lift/run for 3 hours to lose weight sounds like an excellent weight to convince someone not to lose weight.:colbert:

It's also not at all sustainable to exercise 3 hours a day every day. The body will break down and cease functioning after a semi-short period of time with this level of rigorous exercise.

Edit: Female in the OP would most likely be smoking hot if she dropped down to 145lbs and put on a good amount of muscle.

But the problem is that

(1) The morbidly obese will use this woman as justification for why there is nothing wrong with their weight. After all plus size is "hot".

(2) The woman is already overweight while in her 20s without having kids. How much do you think she will pork up afterward?

1) why do you care about something as petty as this? people with even the slightest sliver of common sense won't allow themselves to become morbidly obese. It's not like people are going to compulsively want to start feeding and feeding just to become obese simply because chubby models exist.

2) metabolism slows down with age and lbs pack on with pregnancy, but not as much as you think. do you have any idea what qualifies as "overweight"? According to BMI, anyone who is 6"0 and between 185 and 230 is considered "overweight", and that's not even taking muscle, gender, or even age into consideration. There's a pretty broad weight range right there. In most cases, if you eat healthy, you'll eventually get down to a relatively stable weight, most likely in the overweight category if you aren't exercising. Regardless, someone isn't going to go from overweight to full on obesity just by having a kid or aging 10 years.

Don't be dumb. Nobody said people will become obese because there are fat models. But people who are already obese will justify their weight when we start seeing models that are fat.

This thread makes me laugh (note: not chuckle...chuckle is for fatties). I like my women like those tall aliens in Close encounters, pointy elbows AND knees...and lots of junk in the trunk.

Newsflash, plus sized models are nothing new. Obesity isn't something that just popped up overnight. You can go back to your racism and gaybashing now.

So just because someone has one extra excuse to be morbidly obese, chubby models should automatically be ostracized? Sorry, but that's even more obtuse.

Hate to burst your bubble, but chubby models are very common, and have been for a long time. Naysayers are just blind to it and want to pretend that the world always has been, and always will be, how -they- envision it.

stop with the straw man

no one said 3 hours, no one said everyday, and no one said to start at full blast

sounds like someone who doesn't want to lose weight - i'm not trying to convince anyone to lose weight, just stating the best way to lose weight

if someone isn't willing to change their lifestyle, how do they plan on changing their life

When some buffoon points at an Olympic swimmer and says that people don't have to change their diet because, "Look, Michael Phelps is in shape and he eats whatever he wants" then it is about exercising all day every day.

Again, what's more realistic? An obese person eating healthier or an obese person becoming a gym rat?

neither if they don't want to lose weight, and if they do, then going to a gym will be more effective

and wtf is with that leading language, "gym rat"? lol

Never go full retard, like you have.

The most effective way to lose weight? Caloric intake restriction.

The least effective way to lose weight? Change nothing with respect to caloric intake, do a ton of cardio/weight lifting.

The most effective way to look good? Caloric intake restriction + cardio/weight lifting.

Stop being an idiot, please.

losing weight isn't about looking good, please stop trying so hard to be noticed

idk how else to say it, you're wrong

people diet till the end of time, and never lose an ounce - because it doesn't matter if you consume 2k or 3k calories a day if you're only burning 1k

you just have no idea how little some people do during a day

edit: and really, no need to start calling me names like "retard", i know you're mad but - please restrain yourself

I workout so much just so I can eat like an asshole. I'm not looking for six pack abs or anything, but if I run and do yoga 4-5 times per week, I can eat whatever I want and maintain a solid 170-174 lbs and look fine. That's all I really care about.

So as far as I'm concerned exercise is the far more important piece.

I ain't mad, lets get that straight. You're just retarded.

The bolded above perfectly encapsulates how little you know about the human body.

I love this site haha

Eating in public

I was on the metro (subway) yesterday night, and this really skinny guy in a suit was sitting there with an open package of cookies just eating his way through the whole thing. It wasn’t that big a pack, but it wasn’t a single serving either. I’m not saying this to say anything bad about the guy, bon appetit dude. But if I had done it, I would have had the whole car giving me silent (or vocal) hate.

Why do you think people are saying that calorie control is needed? It's because they shouldn't be eating 3K calories/day.

you just have no idea how little some people do during a day

Did you read any of the information? An hour of strenuous exercise burns under 1K calories. If a fattie is consuming 3K and you claim they're only burning 1K without exercise, you expect them to magically start doing strenuous exercise for two hours per day to burn the rest?

A person burns far more calories every day just through normal metabolic processes than they do.

Of course some of the people in this thread expect fatties to become Michael Phelps.....

Fact is, both is best, but if you're only going to do one, better eating is more likely to result in weight loss than exercise. And don't think I'm talking about diet. Diets are fads. I'm talking about healthy eating.

The best way to lose weight is to get the amount of food you are consuming under control(hopefully leaving you at least at a small calorie deficit, or more if your previous eating habits were full on fatty) and add moderate exercise. This creates a sustainable change in lifestyle.

if someone isn't willing to change their lifestyle, how do they plan on changing their life

Someone is going to be a lot more willing to change their lifestyle if the changes you are suggesting sound reasonable.

If you tell someone they are going to have to do 3 hours of intense exercise everyday to lose weight most people are go to say screw that and then eat a bag of Cheetos to feel better :p
