false... lancer evo for <$30k and a 2004 vette for <$35
btw the mazdaspeed 3 will give the srt4 a run for its $$$.

EDIT: the stang is too heavy to be a performer. It weighs more than a vette and is underpowered unless you get the shelby gt500. You could probably get a noble m12 for $40k and that will pwn ANYTHING <$100k. It's not legal here in the states though:(

You have to stick with new because if we go by used, Corvette would be faster than any of the above and you can get high mileage used C5 Z06 for under 20k.
Um, no. No ZO6 is under $20K. And I don't think you can get ANY C5 Vette for under $20K. Please don't open your mouth if you don't know what you're talking about.

LOL. Isn't this ironic. Why don't you take your own advice.

2002 Millennium Yellow Z06 for $19.9k

I've been looking for used C5 Z06 for months and check the Corvette forum everyday. I think I'm familiar with Corvette prices. You can find plenty of C5 for under 20k like this and this.

C5 Z06 for all of the above. I'd place an LS1 F-body as fastest car under $15k. It's hard to beat GM for price/performance right now.

is the 1998 m3 reliable? is $18k good for a convertible m3 with 42k miles on it?

If you must get the vert... If the car is stock and kept in good condition then yes around there. Preferably around 16-17.

No love for the 2003 SVT Cobra?

It absolutely dominates anything mentioned here from 25k to 50k+.

Stay up front with Corvettes and BMWs on the twisty road courses no sweat and pull 10's and 9's in the quarter

20-25k for a low mileage coupe and $2500 in bolt ons and a tune gets you 600 HP at the rear wheels. Few more bucks for a Kenne Bell/Whipple blower upgrade, fuel system upgrade, and cams, and you are untouchable.

I disagree. A new SRT4 will school a beatup STi

You're high on crack.

Hmm, you are saying a 230hp Neon with FWD can school a 300hp STI with all wheel drive and a 6 Speed? I am not sure where the schooling is going to be. Hell, with a stock WRX, you are going to be hitting a SRT4...

Just for some demographics on a few cars cars here...

SRT4 (www.motortrend.com)

0-60- 6.0 seconds
1/4 Mile- 14.4 seconds @ 100.8 mph
60-0- 118 ft

2003 WRX (Not STI) (www.motortrend.com)

0-60- 5.62 seconds
1/4 Mile- 14.2 seconds @ 94.4 mph
60-0- 123 ft

2004 WRX STI (www.motortrend.com)

0-60- 4.8 seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.2 seconds @ 102.9 mph
60-0- 110 ft

2006 WRX STI (www.motortrend.com)

0-60- 4.5 seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.0 seconds @ 103.5 mph
60-0- 108 ft

2006 Evo IX (www.motortrend.com)

0-60- 4.5 seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.3 seconds @ 103.4 mph
60-0- 107 ft

OMG...Did you read the service record on that effin car...

Oil change every 10k miles??? New tires every year? Blown head gasket?

This car was bagged hard and put away wet...No wonder it is under 20k...I would not give it another 30k miles...

Depends on the oil and intervals needed. Mobil 1 on LS1 Z28 Chevy SB engines can go 12k between changes and still be fine. Most of the better synthetics can go 10k between changes(I mean Pure PAO based Motul, Redline, Amsoil, etc, not the cheap crap).

As for new tires, 40k miles for new tires is pretty good, either he had decently hard compounds or drove it like a granny.

The blown head gasket and the blown rear tires just a couple k after the last 2 tire changes seem a bit odd though but it is an extreme high mileage corvette z06, i'd expect mantainence to rape me anyway.

uhh.. pretty unreasonable dude. one would expect a used car in good to excellent condition for points of discussion... not a domestic car with 130k miles thats been sideswiped by a SEMI , with blown headgaskets, and a door that doesnt even CLOSE. why not bring salvaged cars in the mix

No, the point of the discussion was about the fastest car at each price range. I said you could get a high mileage C5 Z06 for under 20k. I didn't say it was going to be garage queen. Obviously most of the miles on that car are highway miles. The new owner is going to use it as a track car and it's perfect for that.

This discussion should focus on new. Any car can be made to go fast with mods.
