Thanks. And of course best of all, it's FREE.

This is just an update for the reader! Yes, 5 was soooo slooow that I went back to 4. It was funny to see the bragscreen with all those stupid names before it opens the document eventually. I would not want my name to be on that screen, it's a disgrace. And now the "start" takes ages, so what's the improvement really, timewise! Back to the good ol' 4.x .
"Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional is now available." from their website, linkie. Too steep for me though, $449US, unless you qualify for an upgrade price.Originally posted by: altonb1
Anyone know if the full version of 6 is available, and if not, when it will be? I'd consider looking at the PDF writing capabilities of 6 if/when it is released.
I hate that slow startup! 5 is bad, can 6 be worse? I wonder if 4 would be a better choice. As it is, my 5 right now only opens 20% of the time when I click on a web page pdf link. So I'll try 6 to fix that.
Here is the link for the BASIC (less bloated) version for all version of windows (apparently):

It's noticeably faster on my AthlonXP 2000+.
AR5 used to take half a minute to render a Compusa PDF ad. Now it only takes a second. Also, scrolling (and the resulted re-rendering) is much smoother.
Nice post. The PDF's display much faster, but OMFG, why does this version take so much longer to load than Acrobat 5???

Reinstalling XP seems like a lotta trouble just to view PDFs a little faster...Originally posted by: ViperV990
I just reinstalled Windows xp and now Adobe Reader 6 starts up much faster. Seems like the old AR installation was at least partially at fault. Make sure you uninstall any previous versions before you put on AR 6.
However, it still eats up quite a bit of RAM. After browsing 3 of today's OC Register Fry's ads the memory usage went up to 45 MB for AR alone.
