Their chips were never used by their PC division. That seems odd on the surface of it but it's actually not.

 
It would be foolish of IBM to sell the same division that also makes the chips for the GC, PS3, and the Xbox 2 to China. Its a VERY profitable business.
 
IBM chips division have much potential and in leading position of the chips industry. A much important division than PC division.
 
IBM has always been a much better developer rather than a retailer. The PC business is a big loser anyway, in terms of profit
