I prefer our own locally owned and operated Fast Mex place....and it's actually Mex not Americanized crap.
I love how "Americanized" has such a negative connotation to it.
There is nothing wrong with our hybrid-foods. Most cultures take parts of other cultures food and integrate it into their own. This is seen all over the world in once-occupied areas, or areas with a large migrant population like the US.
We have so many different palates here, that any "national" chain food has to be a certain way in order to maximize your client base.
Of course the "authentic" food is generally much better. But not always. Take the American "Orange Chicken." Obviously that is not Chinese food, but it is delicious. It is fried chicken with a sweet orange-flavored sauce.
There is a reason there are not "authentic" Chinese food places everywhere in areas that do not have a large ethnic Chinese population: Very few people would eat there.
Even fast food places do population studies before they open a store. There are a ton of Popeye's chicken places where the black population is higher. There are almost none where I live.
There is nothing wrong with going to Macaroni Grill and eating some bread and having some spaghetti, as long as you understand that it is an Americanized version of it. If you pretend you are eating actual Italian, you are just ignorant.
Luckily most big towns have "authentic" restaurants as well though.
