Fargo Season 2

No Colin Hanks? Never watched the first season, but I thought it had a stable cast. Looks like True Detective total cast swap type show?

Total cast swap. This season takes place in the same area something like 30 years earlier. A couple of characters are recurring, but this time they're played by different actors because of the time lapse. Instead of Molly Solverson the lead cop is her father Lou Solverson. The early reviews are raves though, so losing Billy Bob and Bob Odenkirk doesn't seem to have hurt the show any. It's not going to be a repeat of True Detective.

If it's written well, it'll be great again.

I suspect we'll see another malevolent force of nature type bad guy, a seemingly good person take the slippery slope into evil, and a more smart than you might think cop. Can't wait.

So, I watched the first episode. Pretty good. Based on the posts above, each season is separate from the others, right? I didn't miss anything by not seeing the first season.

Correct. Season 2 is technically a prequel to Season 1 with very little character overlap (the State Police guy, he's the father of the main police officer in Season 1 -- the little girl he was reading the bedtime story to). The stories are (supposedly) completely independent of each other.

That being said, I STRONGLY recommend watching Season 1 as it's just great godddamn TV.

I liked it...but NOT crazy about the casting. Some of the actors are on my "I don't watch that show/movie because "insert name" is in it" list...but I'll still watch this show. It's just too well done.

Who is that bad? I'd guess you're going to say Dunst, but thus far its hardly even "her" in the show. I didn't even realize it was her until after a few minutes.

Nah...I'm not a Ted Danson fan...IMO, he fucks up most shows he's been in...since Cheers. Also, I can't stand Burn Notice...probably because it's poorly written and even more poorly cast. IMO, Jeffrey Donovan was terrible for that part...but we'll see how he does with this show. I think Kirsten Dunst's character is gonna bring lots of lulz and "Holy SHIT!" to this season.

Never watched Burn Notice so Jeffrey Donovan is new to me more or less. I understand what you're saying about Danson. I don't particularly hate him, but don't care for him in the same breath.

I too think Dunst will be good. I've always sort of liked her, and I only suggested her to start with as I know a lot of people have issues with her and she is hardly up to ATOT standards.

What made the first season interesting was the sense of surrealism that they seem to want to capture this season. Personally, I think they're doing a pretty good job of it so far.

Take Dunst's character for example. They paint her as being a complete sociopath. The guy (Rye I think) is bleeding on her front seat and her first impulse is to gingerly move her files out of the way. She drive home with guy still on her hood. Does her makeup and then makes dinner where she has a conversation with hubby about her upcoming self-actualization. I mean, it was nearly perfect.

Stories like this where blood and gore are part of the central theme are only really interesting if you do something unusual with it.

I'm also intrigued by the intro claiming that it's a true story. In the first season, they made repeated reference to what happened 20 (or however many) years ago. So the implication is that this is going to be similarly surreal but based on actual events.

When the credits were rolling and I saw her name, immediately I was like "What? I didn't see her in the show." I still don't know which character she was. lol

Wait! That was Kirsten Dunst? holy crap, it looked nothing like her.
