FarCry

I am finally, after all these years, playing another playthru of FarCry.

I wish it would have played this smooth when I originally played it 🙂

I vote for the Binocs as the best set of binocs that I have ever used in a game!

I have installed the 1.5 mod....I am not positive of what it all consist of.....HDR is one of the things I know of.

This is kind of funny. Because today I was thinking about games that were really fun. Farcry popped into my head. Wish I still had the install discs 🙁

Ill see if Steam has it on sale.

Edit: Ohh 10 bucks or 13 for a special edition. Looks like I will have something to do this afternoon 🙂

I think it still needs to be enabled manually. It's off in your screenshots. The HDR "2" setting is the best one and works with driver AA on Nvidia cards using the Oblivion compatibility profile. There should be some way to get it on ATI cards too. There are also three adjustable HDR parameters that should be toned down, as the default values make the HDR bloom effect too strong.

I played through this game again a year ago and had a great time. We hardly ever see FPSs with the same kind of depth in gameplay today.

I dont know how to turn it on manually....I change the config file to hdr rendering 2 and the mod no longer works.

This is a fantastic game. I've played it through several times. When you're done playing the vanilla game, be sure to check out Matto 3 and 4. They're stellar mods!

Fun game and it's amazing how stunning it still looks after all these years.

Far Cry is one of the games I've played over and over and over again. As soon as I can get a set of replacement discs then I'm all over it again. 🙂

I wish i could get the HDR working....but I think it has to do with having the 1.4 patch installed.......it may work in devmode.......But I really dont want to play with the cheat mode enabled.

I played through the game with 1.33. HDR (and AA) work fine with that. There are two official 1.4 patches, and both have various problems. I think 1.5 is a fanmade patch but I don't know what it does.

did u type /r_hdrrendering 2 in console? you can try any number between 1 and 11, they have different light bloom effects and different performance. I just found 2 to run the fastest for me. 0 is off.

also may as well get 1.33. edit: you need 1.31 then 1.33

also, there is an "experimental" 1.4 patch that supported hdr+aa simultaneously. you may require that patch to get hdr to work period with a videocard as new as yours

Only 2 things wrong with Far Cry:

1) End Mission, receive New Mission, Character whines
2) The last level is like the Developers didn't care anymore and just spammed it with Bosses.

Great game by any criteria.

The antagonist boss at the end was so useless

Another BIG problem was the AI. I don't know if the user created patch fixed the AI. But I had some major problems with it. 2 big things stick out, the 2nd level where you're on the boat to the small island. There were 2 baddies standing 10 feet away from the generator, I'd shoot it with my D.E. and they wouldn't hear the gun fire or the loud ass explosion from the generator blowing up. Very crappy. 2nd there could be 2 baddies talking, I'm behind a barrel or rock or something no more than 10 feet away, I pop up and shoot 1 in the head with a loud ass gun. 1 baddie goes flying back to the ground and the other goes "hay is everything alright!" I guess he didn't hear the gun and wasn't concerned his friend just flew backwards to the ground because he wouldn't come looking for me. I could reproduce the 2nd thing over and over during the game. It really took away from the game IMHO. While I did enjoy the game and the AI did have some really great points. The bugs in it were super annoying.

Jesus how is that link still up? That ad-supported version hasn't worked in years, It stopped being installable sometime in 07. I wonder how much bandwidth is wasted every month from people downloading that. Sucks that UBISoft didn't just make that version permeant.
