Far Cry

I started playing Far Cry again and boy oh boy is this game a delight to those wanting vision candy. In one part of the game (where you first encounter the hand glider) I just stood atop the mtn taking screenshots of the beautiful scenery WHILE baddies were shooting at me. This game adds nice variety to computer gaming as we see most games going towards the dark and scary (a la HL2, Fear, etc). The colorful foliage makes my mind go insane!

Anyways, this pretty much was a waste of a posting spot but I just had to mention how greatly appreciated Far Cry is in my arsenal of computer games. 🙂

the gfx are nice but that story . . . plot . . . voice acting . . . cutscenes . . . lack of anytime save . . .

makes me gag 😛
:Q

the AI is pretty good and the gameplay, excellent

It's good, but a little on the challenging side IMO. The helicopters are too strong. Reminds me of the HL2 choppers.

Practise makes perfect. I remember getting raped in the demo version, but you learn how to adapt to the PC's skill level. There's just certain do's and don'ts like:

do: hide in bushes, use crouch and duck extensively, use glasses often (and cryvision when you get it)

dont: Rambo it, stand in one place for long when you know hostiles are around, ignore audio cues, etc.

Yes the gfx in FarCry are awesome , It was the first widescreen experiance I had when I got my 24" FW900 widescreen CRT.

Took this pic of it.

Thanks for the tips. 😉

I might just start playing this game again now that I finally got an X800Pro (for $200 I might add). The thing is, now that you say that, I'm usually a fan of the "Rambo Style" games like Serious Sam. This game just isn't my style I guess. There's too much walking around and not enough killing for my liking.

this is ridiculous, i've been waiting for my bro to send me my copy of FC for the longest time so i can experiance HDR and i still havent got it after a week

i loved the game the first time through, cant wait to see it in HDR

and use a Palm Tree whenever possible for cover . . . those Palm Trees are INdestructable . . . piece of cake to take out a copter in FC

Very Good, and a very long game, though not monotonous (like Doom3, boring) and it does'nt take more than 512mb to make it play smoothly.

as long as you stay "behind" the Palm Tree, the Copter can't hit you or destroy the tree. You use the trunk for cover and when the copter pauses, you UNload with heavy weapons.

SPOILER ALERT*******************

This works especially well when you are on the Sinking Freighter . . . Get OFF it as quickly as possible, swim for shore and run to a Palm Tree . . . use above tactics . . . results: one easily defeated chopter.

Thanks. 😀 :Q 😛 (sorry, I know that's "plagiarism"...lol couldn't resist).

plagiarism is only when you don't attribute the quotes . . . and you're welcome, SickBeast
😀

that freighter was difficult till i figured to do the opposite what the game suggested . . . finding that tree gave me the "shade" i needed 😉

I love it, best FPS evar imo, and it gets REALLY challenging as you crank up the difficulty...and the outdoor scenes are just mindblowing, amazing water and foliage...and the little trigens are damn tough to take down in enclosed spaces...

I just wish nvidia would release a driver fix for this http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1699680&enterthread=y problem, so we nvidia owners can enjoy the shadows as they were meant to look, not some half-assed blocky jaggy crap we get atm :|

I was looking forward more to the multiplayer,....
I had visions of people running hrough bushes and only the leaves shaking as people saw you from above. and over cool things along those lines.
I thought the game was better than Doom 3 and maybee even HL2 as it was longer and looked better.

I liked Far Cry a lot. The graphics were both top notch and so was the gameplay for the most part. I don't care for the default rendering style, but the cold one looks far better. With the HDR enabled and properly adjusted I think the game looks better than some newer ones like Doom 3 and HL2. I need to try out those 64-bit textures though.

It was definitely harder than most other games but it generally wasn't too bad on Veteran if the quicksaves were used. A lot of parts become much easier if you get the enemy's attention, retreat and hide behind something and just wait for them to come. The AI isn't too bright and will blindly follow you around. I think the only parts I thought were really too hard were the beginning of the Cooler level (where you have to fight two of the fat boys coming from opposite directions) and several parts in the Dam level.

This works especially well when you are on the Sinking Freighter . . . Get OFF it as quickly as possible, swim for shore and run to a Palm Tree . . . use above tactics . . . results: one easily defeated chopter.

Is that the part where you fight crow? What I did was to move two 4WDs down on that piece of shoreline before I went on the freighter, so I could just run to those and use the vehicle machine guns on him.
