With the HDR enabled and properly adjusted I think the game looks better than some newer ones like Doom 3 and HL2. I need to try out those 64-bit textures though.

This works especially well when you are on the Sinking Freighter . . . Get OFF it as quickly as possible, swim for shore and run to a Palm Tree . . . use above tactics . . . results: one easily defeated chopter.

Is that the part where you fight crow? What I did was to move two 4WDs down on that piece of shoreline before I went on the freighter, so I could just run to those and use the vehicle machine guns on him.
Yep . . .
. . TWO - 4WDs :Q

i tried only one . . . that didn't work :p . . .
. . . that's when i discovered the beauty of palm trees ;)

The tree affords enough cover so you never take a single hit [as long as you keep the bulk of the trunk between you and the bullets] but can blast away when Crow pauses in firing or changes direction

Yah, I've noticed that too. The shadows that the plant leaves create on your weapons/hands are choppy for me as well. But, I've learned to take the good with the bad and enjoy FC to its fullest. THank you Germans!

Far Cry was a beautiful and intense game. It was definitely the sleeper hit of the past couple years for me.

Sometimes a single one doesn't have enough ammo to do the job or it gets blown up, so it's good to have another one in reserve. :D There are like four extras on that island anyway.

My favorite trick is something you can do near the end. In the Volcano map, just after you beat Krieger, there is an armory type room and a bit later you go into a large open area with lots of trigens. Normally the door to this big area is locked one way, preventing you from returning to the armory room to resupply (there is enough stuff in there to load up your health and ammo several times), but there is a trick to keep it open. You can push one of the chairs from the armory all the way to this door. If you position it just right, you can wedge the chair inside the door, causing it to kind of vibrate but stay open indefinitely. It takes a while to get this right but it allows you to keep returning to the armory for health and stuff. I found this very useful and used it several times.

I truthfully didn't care for the game after the beasts were introduced. I hate fighting those kind of monsters in such a realistic game. I quit about then, and so did most people I know. The story wasn't good enough to pull me along, and one of my best buds that actually finished it said don't bother too as the story doesn't get better.

So yeah, I am waiting for something more like Quake4 or F.E.A.R, I think they will be much more up my alley :)

As for graphics, I still think it is the best engine out right now, and seeing that DirectX 10 demo was pretty awesome, with the day/night cycles and interactive scenerey....

I NEVER could get the chair trick to work. Instead I let the first set of doors close behind me (cutting me off from the armory, I know), then open the second set of doors. I snipe whoever I can see until the rocket trigens climb up on the platform where I am. I hide on the right side. Since the rocket trigen are too large to get in the second set of doors, they stand there like idiots and don't even fire at me. Again, they can't see me since I am hiding on the right side. To kill the rocket trigen I throw grenades off the left wall. The grenades bounce back to the right side, but on the outside whereas I am still hiding on the inside. *boom* Several grenades later and the rocket trigen are dead.

Is there some trick to getting the chair to the first set of doors? I tried shooting at it to push it along. I tried pushing it. But in either case, the chair gets stuck sometimes and I cannot move it no matter what I do. A couple of times I got the chair to the first set of doors, only to find that I could not get the chair over the lower edge of the door.

I don't know, I didn't have too much trouble with that part. The pillars right next to the door you come through are a great spot to hide behind. I fired off all my rockets down the hallway from there, which got about half of the enemies, and the others just came charging towards me one by one and were easily picked off with the OICW without offering any return fire.

I found it pretty easy to just move it to the door. There was one place where it seemed to get stuck on something on the floor, but I ran/jumped into it a few times and it flew over. What took a lot of time for me was to position it in the door in such a way that it didn't fall out when the door closed on it. If you get it right the chair should be upright and shouldn't move at all while the door will periodically do a quick vibration but stay open otherwise. I spent about 20 minutes with this, but Havok bugs are always rewarding results. :D

I also just sniped most of the trigens from between the two doors, but that used up a lot of ammo and I found the health/armor packs useful a little later when I ran into that squad of rocket launcher guys at the very end.

Wow, all this talk has made me want to download the demo again. Last time it didn't run so smoothly on my compt, this time around however I should be able to enjoy it on full detail.

Here we go....!
