When does Far Cry 3 get good? I am 2 hours into this game and I feel fairly bored with it. I wanted to finish Far Cry 3 before I hit Bioshock. Does the game get much better later?

I'm enjoying it, but if you're two hours in and don't like it I doubt things are going to change much for you, because in two more hours you'll still be exploring the map, blowing stuff up, and pressing 'E'.

So far I like the environment, and the weapons, but I thought the explosions and fire and mission content were all better in FC2. The animals are a nice, but often irritating touch, Seriously, why is this farking bird trying to kill me? Why? The side missions seem to be seriously lacking variety (there is a pirate at [some place] doing [bad stuff]. Kill him with a knife like a generic Polynesian would.).

Yeah, it's just a matter of time. I agree with Techboy. I played two 1hr sessions real quickly and I was like this sucks. But once you get into exploring and get a better feel for the weapons, it's fun. It's not unlike the first one, really.

I will keep going with it. The animals have been annoying so far. Birds attack me but a cheetah or large cat won't? Weird...

That comment about 50 year olds is prejudiced. I just turned 49 and I love the swearing and the violence and the drugs. The more the merrier!

Man, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks that. Awesome world and a reasonably compelling main quest, but it's been dumbed down to the point that it was hard for me to enjoy. I really only finished it because I had my wife pay $60 for it.

Meh, I made my own variety and had fun with the sand box-ness. The nature of the missions lacked variety, but how they were carried out was up to you, plenty of room for fun with that.

That's basically the attraction for me, too. Wander around, find all the different secrets, and try out different ways of taking outposts.

I do enjoy using the grenade launcher when bad guys drive by on the road.

I found the linear nature of the quests so annoying that I largely ignored it until I had ran out of things to do and places to go, even though the story should have been compelling. The boss fights were totally useless, nothing more than Quick Time button pushing exercises. And it has a horrible case of consolitus, with every other bush flashing, brain dead AI, and a ridiculous concentration of predators. At one point I parked at one intersection and killed not only dozens of pirates, but an even dozen tigers. When I dismounted to skin some before they disappeared, I was killed by - you guessed it - a tiger.
