great game... but there will be lot's of kids playing this game and no doubt when it becomes an older game and go up on ebay even younger kids will give it a go under 10.

It kinda amazes me after playing far cry 1 and 2... There were virtually no swearing... Now every other work is FUCK!!! Mother Fucker... Shit... Game includes nudity and lot's of drugs. Tho, I'm not one to go in and burn a bunch of weed. I think it should be smoked but go figure!

Anyway..... I guess the word is out now. If Games don't have bad language or some nudity they aren't going to be popular. What's next? Anal? Acid trips? Oh wait, I forgot about the mushrooms.

Really tho... What do you guy's think of this? Is it too far already? and what line would you not cross in a game? I mean, when is it too much and you won't buy it?

Just kinda interesting to see the differences here. I'm coming from the PC side, so maybe the PC is wide open while the console side is more watered down?

You apparently haven't played Tomb Raider. Wow, that game earns it's M rating fairly easily: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qfDiULrnjI (warning, do not watch with young children around).

This is what the big "ESRB" rating on the box is for. Read it. If the game contains content that you find offensive, then don't buy it.

Far Cry 3 is pretty mild. I can think of dozens of other games that are far more crude.

I have zero issues with language, drug use, or nudity provided the game is rated M. If parent are stupid enough to buy their kids rated M games, thats their failing as a parent.

As long as the content plays into the game, I really do not care what content is displayed. In the case of Far Cry 3, nothing really felt out of place. You are dealing with drug dealers on a lawless chain of islands. So to me the content played into the environment that the game took place in.

Seriously. Don't fuck me over on content because kids exist.

The "content" is a joke. Like a bad movie with a bunch of mindless "mature" content to appease the bro-culture that it's aimed at.

I don't mind if there is language or sexual content in a game, if there is actually a REAL story with character development to make it somewhat meaningful when it happens (..though I really don't think I've run across this yet. I even thought it was a bit cheesy in Witcher2, which has far better writing and dialog than most games).

I DO mind when that content is just meaningless garbage placed there to impress Doritos-eating, backwards-hat wearing adolescent virgins.

I didnt think the boobies and sex scenes were necessary, but I think they put that stuff in there for teenagers. It might help with word of mouth sales, but the game stood fine on its own.

Can we stop pretending that kids are the only, or even primary market for video games anymore? It's like expecting every movie to come out to be okay for kids to watch.

Exactly. The bulk of the video game market is 25-35 year old males.

If I was in Far Cry 3's scenario I'd be cursing like a drunken sailor. I don't see the issue. *shrug*

Gonna have to agree with OP on this one. It would take virtually no effort to have a second set of voice files in these games to overlap the few spots they curse, easily configurable in the options menu.

In a sense some violence is better for kids than language because few kids will emulate massacring a bunch of bad guys but the language they could. I am surprised more games have not voluntarily had "less blood" options that could be selected along with language, and would make the game slightly more accessible to a younger crowd.

Honestly as I get older I find that cursing impresses me less.'inhave watched the human centipede. Both of them. I am no princess but a lot of the time the language feels forced. I think even your typical sailor would have agreed that for example it was grossly overdone in Ted. In games I am not used to it and at times it fits the dialogue properly but throwing it in should be careful.

"How anybody expects a man to stay in business with every two-bit wowser in the country claiming a veto over what we can say and can't say and what we can show and what we can't show — it's enough to make you throw up. The whole principle is wrong; it's like demanding that grown men live on skim milk because the baby can't eat steak."

Not worth the effort. THe game is what it is. Taming it just nueters it past the point of it even being worth making.

Hey, let's make a porn, but swap the sex scenes out so kids can watch it...

I mean you could, but what's the point?

The only ones who think this are old people (50+ years), and the severely ignorant/misinformed.

This is why mainstream media outlets like Fox News get so heated over violent video games. Whenever a new CoD game comes out, they report loudly "ARE THESE THE KINDS OF GAMES WE SHOULD LET OUR KIDS PLAY?!" It's like they still don't "get" that games can be for adults too.

Why limit it to just porn? Let's have alternative, toned-down audio tracks and video tracks in every R-rated movie! In fact, let's just trash the original artistic vision of the director, and let people butcher and mutilate the film into whatever fits their idea of "appropriate". Brilliant.

Sure it does. They have to record the alternate versions and manage those assets. From what I've heard voice acting is quite expensive.

It's not the language that offends me, it's the incompetence of the dialog in the first place.

Maybe it's because I've grown up out here in the sticks, where people's IQ seems to be directly correlated to their penchant for spewing profanity.

I guess it's not cool to be intelligent anymore. We went from Gordon Freeman to Jason Brody, possibly the most inept lead character I've ever played in a game. Even his name has "Bro" in it.

I didn't really care for Far Cry 3 - horrible case of consolitus - but I can't imagine the point of cleaning up the language in a game where you kill hundreds of human beings. The nudity was meh (what's really the point of competing with the Internet which was and perhaps still is maybe 1/3 porn?) but again, nudity and sex and even drug use are pretty mild compared to killing people. So I'd say attempting to clean it up for kids is useless if not counter-productive.

That freakin' Tomb Raider video, now THAT was disturbing. Nice graphics though.

Your joking right? Graphics ok. But...it doesn't even hold a candle to what FC3 has in it.

I guess I was just kinda shocked to see the comparisons of FC1 vs FC3.

And no I'm not gonna say they shouldn't make games like FC3, just to me I kinda wonder what FC6 or FC8 is gonna be like. It's only obvious when your killing that monster after drinking the potion the chick is moaning through the entire sequence ... then you wake up with a nude chick riding you... yeah... I'd be like more for it if they had some sort of condom (safe sex) use before it started ya know?

But whatever...

I think you give people in general too much credit. Anyone not into games seems to believe this as well as media and politicians.

Politicians are almost universally member of the previous generation. Anyone who's gone to college in the last 10 years has at least seen the Xboxes in every dorm. :p

Yes, please let's tone down the swearing and natural human figure so that we can allow the kids to pretend murder others.

Anyone else sense the irony?

I think the best way to look at the situation is listen to an adult satellite radio station.
Let’s take Raw Dog.
I love it. I enjoy it. I like to hear woman talk about sex, Real dirty like. I love to hear Ron White unfiltered. I like it.
Now, just wait till they have a call in session.

Hi, this is Jim from (Insert ANYWHERE).
Yeah uhhh the effin guy he uh was like yeah uh, I saw him standing there and da effin guy had his junk in his hand and he uhhh he was so effed up. he uhhhhh.
Yeah he was holding his junk. It was so weird……

Constant. Always. Mind numbing. And most of these guys are mid 30's. Yes, some are in their 20’s, and others in their 40’s.
I worry for this world….
I do.

And dont get me wrong. Like Tall Bill up there. DONT LIMIT MY CONTENT.
I bought the UK version of Witcher 1 so I could get the gritty version.
The Dwarf blacksmith cursed like a rabid sailor, and my conquest cards were tasteful nudity.
I should be allowed to have that.
