Man, so I crafted two items, something with boars and sharks. So I'm doing the mushroom level where you do the leap of faith. So I jump...and land on a frickin rock and die. Lost my items so I had to go hunting again. Also, I landed the hand glider on the side of a mountain. The glider landed on top of me and trapped me. So I save and reload, and it spawns me at the other end of the map. WTF??? Oh, and I shot a leopard, and chased down a goat. But the grass is kinda tall, so I couldnt find the damn leopard again! I wondered if it despawned when I chased the goat. While this hunting is kinda interesting, I wish I didnt have to do it to acquire items.

I kinda hate this backpack inventory crafting thing. Reminds me of Fallout where I have to decide what I want to keep and what to discard. Its not as bad as Fallout because they dont make you go slow the more stuff you have, but I wish you could just pick stuff up and not worry about it. Or make it so you can buy the items. I just finished the Medusa level and have like $4K. I would spend all $4K on some kind of Alice pack and not worry about this crap anymore!

And animations for this, animations for that. I feel like the game is always making you wait until it finishes being pretentious. Or maybe, if a dorky comedian was trying to make fun of Uncharted for its over abundance of animations, it would be what Far Cry 3 is.

But annoyances aside, its kinda interesting. I dont like all the gimmickry, but as a basic open world shooter its fairly decent. Until you are in a mission and the game decides to not be open world anymore. I'm not normally a sneaky player, but I find myself doing it a lot. Then I get annoyed because I cant take my preferred route. I'm looking forward to the bow and sniper rifles. Maybe I should just buy them since I have cash, but the cheap bastard in me knows these weapons will be free later on.

They should have a ARMA/DayZ like mode, where 32 or 64 players are just wandering the map. They can do their missions, help others, or grief. Like Dark Souls.

I've just started playing it a bit. I loved Far Cry 1, I skipped Far Cry 2. Didn't look appealing.

Now this one so far has some promise but good lord... it's going to take a lot of ignoring of certain things for me to end up enjoying it.

I would've preferred to just have it be more of a straight forward shooter like the original. I'm not opposed to doing some sort of open world with mission hubs... but man alive, I'm so early in and it's already clear this is an overbloated gimmick-fest.

I can't go 2 seconds without something popping up, some update on crap... another tutorial, another key that will need pushing periodically... streamlined this is not.

I realize the early parts of games always are loaded with tutorial, but c'mon. This has gone too far.

Achievement for every time you breath...

I'm surprised it's not popping up options for me to interface the game with twitter and facebook to relay every inch my character walks to all my friends!

For the love of fucking god, just let me play the game. I don't need all this horseshit... it detracts from the fun honestly.

I intend to power past these annoyances and expect to enjoy the game, but even Skyrim which has a much better claim to including all this shit in it because of it's genre, was much more subtle and elegant about it.

Finally got to play last night for a few hours. Just finished the cave mushroom mission. Sadly I spent most of my time last night hunting animals, and crafting storage items. I took over a couple of outposts and radio towers as well, both of which are fun. The only major issue I have so far is that the enemies seem half blind. As long as you're crouching and your more than 5 feet away they can't seem to see you at all. And then you can lunge kill them with a knife from an insane distance.

you should report those issues to them

Maybe I will. It would make some aspects of the game less tedious. Other minor annoyances:

1. There doesn't seem to be a back button in the shop. Only way to go back is to switch item categories, which is annoying.

2. Why do I have to double click on items in the shop menu? Single click should suffice.

wtf is going on? I'm at the very first part getting out of the camp and the part when you have to throw a rock at the second two guards I die every time. The guy just moves after I throw two rocks and gets killed every time. I've tried like 10 times already.. what am I missing?

throw ONE rock at the ROCK target.. do not throw them at the guards. wait for them to move.. and then quickly follow your brother when HE moves..

and then watch over your shoulder for guards looking at you from other areas..
you have to be aware of your surroundings.

there are other guards watching from higher up make sure you know which way they are facing before moving.

pay attention to the attention sight warnings so you know where you were seen from.
its really very very easy.

you are in tutorial mode for a good hour..
it goes away when you have done it all.

its a BIG game that needed a deep tutorial..
just go with it and ignore it if you already know what to do.

quick save is your friend.. pay attention to your surroundings dont enter mission areas until you are happy with your approach.

and the animations? um last time I checked a human has to make movements to do things..
things don't just poof into my pockets.. when I look at them.
the animations are there to draw you in as a real character.

Literally all you have to do at this part is throw the rock at the marker, and then follow your brother. Really not sure how someone would get stuck here.

Far Cry 3 can not win game of the simply because the player character saying "Leeza" makes me want to kill myself.

If anyone names their child Leeza instead of Lisa they should die in a fire.

Her name is in fact "Liza". Probably short for Elizabeth.

Cassowary birds are nasty. I saw one take out 3 bandits by itself. Bloody things are half Ostrich, half Velociraptor.

It never really stops though.
That's one of the only problems I have with the game. I'm running around trying to do stuff and things keep popping up. It gets annoying.
If I forget what I'm supposed to be doing I can go to the map and see. I don't need a popup every few minutes saying "Go *here* or explore the island".
I'M TRYING TO EXPLORE THE ISLAND, LEAVE ME ALONE!

The game does have some issues; the worst I've seen so far is the 'cannot exit a vehicle bug' which requires you to reset keybinds to default to fix it, then you have to rebind all your keys (arrow user here). Not exactly loving having to 'hold' the interact key, constant "Go do this mission popups" appearing every 10 seconds, and keybind issues (can't bind Enter - grrr, and hang glider binds are hardcoded to WASD - wtf?).

But... the game is like crack. When I was finally able to start playing last night around 11PM, the next time I looked at the clock it was 2AM. Would have stayed up all night playing if pesky Real Life didn't require me somewhere today.

Out of everything, the animals and hunting is really spectacular. A shortcut through the jungle can result in you fighting for your life against one of the many (and I mean many) types of animals. I'm truly surprised at just how many different animals I've seen in only three hours of play.

The latest instance of the insane situations this game can produce - On a hilltop above a camp with my camera spotting things out, 5 guys, 5-6 pitt bulls, and a jaguar in a cage. Before I can move in to begin my attack, the shooting begins. 2 komodo dragons, attack the men and dogs killing them all! I shoot open the cage with my sniper rifle, the jaguar kills off one dragon before dying, then I snipe the remaining dragon. It's hilarious getting a blue flag without firing a shot! (plus the extra XP from nobody hitting the alarm.)

On another note, I like how the radio towers are all different (as far as I can tell) and are like little puzzles getting up them. Having more than one zipline down is cool too, and the quick rotate of local landmarks is really well done.

For those afraid of random alligator attacks, here's a tip - they like to hide under the algae type stuff floating on the water. :)

The towers can get difficult. There's one that requires riding a zip line from a nearby hut just to get on it. Once you get your wingsuit, you can just jump off of the tower. However, there's often a supply run quest opened after the tower is cleared, so the zipline is the best way down for that.

Got to try a good chunk at my buddy's house. Enough to get through the opening escape and then explore without having an active mission. Now I REALLY want it. Much better than my first impressions of FC2.

The one thing I don't like though is the roaming caravans of bad guys. I got the attention of a few trucks while shooting goats and it got hairy quick. It's similar BS to what I didn't like in FC2... I can't seem to go anywhere easily without running into enemies even if that's not what I'm trying to do. There's some stuff that improves this issue as there's fast travel points (though I only have one so not sure how spread out they are) and there's the capture points but these guys are like roaming around unchecked.

well that is not what he was talking about.. yes I agree on that.. and I also hate that if you ignore it you will have to listen to phone calls over and over every time you finish something.

that was my biggest annoyance as well.

I finally fixed it by just starting a new game. The rock would work fine, and the guards would get distracted and walk a bit to where it landed, once the brother started moving (note I was still hiding in the bushes), the guards would turn and shoot him. Every time. Anyway it's done now. Game is pretty good.

that is easy to fix..
you cut them off by capturing thier strongholds..
you do that and they areas go blue.
and then no more patrols.
just your guys running around.

When you start off the Pirates do control the entire islands and the natives are being hunted and killed as are tourists.

they are sick of it.. and that is where you come in..
the more territory you claim the more secure it becomes.

you will no longer see ANY pirates in areas where you own the outposts.
