Fantasy Character Smackdown

In the spirit of March Madness these guys have bracketed some of the most storied characters in fantastic fiction and pitted them against one another for the title of...whatever.

There's some pretty amusing write-ups about the matches and hey, you can vote for your favorite.

I'm rather disappointed that Quick Ben, Anomander Rake or anyone else from Malazan didn't get a seed, but so be it, there were a limited number of slots.

Only names I recognized were Drizzit and Cthulhu.
And I'm pretty fucking sure nothing beats Cthulhu.

As a WOT fanboy I don't see how anyone could beat Rand.

The way the books are written the One Power is essentially instant so the second Rand sees someone he just fires enough balefire to erase that person and every thing they have done for the last 5 seconds or so and he lives.

Even if his opponent does something that will kill Rand as long as the balefire is on the way before Rand dies he'll survive the match.

what if someone dives out of the way? people miss balefire shots in the books. Or what if someone simply moves too fast for rand to see? humans in WoT don't have superfast reflexes. The Flash could probably dodge balefire shots and run up and just punch Rand in the face.

Update, the final is Rand al' Thor vs. Jaimie Lannister. Al'thor is currently ahead by a tiny margin. Votes open till Sunday.

my experience with fantasy lit has led me to believe that generally speaking, the more powerful an author writes a character, the less interesting they are (Elminster and Drizzt are the posterboys for this)

The rules say who you think "should" win, but that's vague isn't it? Are they asing who I think should win because I like the character more, or who do I think would win if they had an actual battle? Since Jaime is in the finals and defeated a few gods along the way, it's pretty clear that this contest is about fanbase and popularity. But that's the only way they really could have done this since Cthulu was an entry. Seriously, who's going to beat that?
