<<<<<This was caused by a lack of science not by science. The church said the Earth was the center of the universe not science. Any scientist caught disagreeing with the church was severely punished and essentially gagged.

Actually that is a completely untrue statement. The modern scientific community of the time generally followed Aristotle?s observations of physics and cosmology. Yes, they happened to be supported by the Catholic Church, however these were considered fact by the majority of the scientific community, which is why the Church adopted such a standing. Galileo supported Copernican theory, which was not supported by the scientific community. There were a lot more politics involved than you might think.
There is an interesting discussion of these events
here. One interesting point from it:
"In addition, rather than setting his ideas forth in a manner allowing people to digest them in their own time, Galileo tended to push them onto people. He continued this practice even when advised against it by such friends as Monsignor Giovanni Ciampoli, Piero Dini (the archbishop of Fermo), and Prince Federico Cesi, founder of the Accademia die Lincei, Europe?s first "scientific society" (de Santillana, 43)."
What got Galileo labeled a Heretic was his own actions combined with the politics of the time. The Church was actually in fact supporting the current scientific community!
<<As soon as one group starts saying its only a theory, I stop listening to them as they are just ignorant of facts and just want to shove their twisted views on me.>> -Iron Woode
Isn't this EXACTLY what Galileo was doing in his time? I suppose this is a very easy way to never have to question anything. Hopefully, as you go on in life, you will realize that there aren't simple black and white answers to everything. Perhaps if you read the rest of my comment, you would realize that I actually supported your statement. I only ask that everyone actually use their own reasoning ability instead of being led.
It's my theory, that as time and Science progresses, it will continue to support Biblical history. If Science can acknowledge that there at least might be a god or higher power of some sort at work in the universe, it will be able to grasp it's own limitations, and only then true scientific advancement will be possible. Again, I site Einstein. He understood such things and his insignificance in the universe, and yet is known as making some of the most revolutionary scientific discoveries in man's history.
