Just change it to "Charlie's"....
I didn't get the history behind it. The article in the link just says that's the name it always had. It didn't even mention the ethnicity of the original owner / founder...so I have no clue.
That is an offensive word and it has been for a long time so I can understand why. I really question the intelligence of the person who decided to name his shop that. If my friends nicknamed me a "beloved patriot" because of my darker skin compared to an average white person, that doesn't mean that it's sensible to name my store beloved patriot's steaks
I can certainly see how it would be offensive to Asians.
Christ, even the guy's widow said that the founder used to be called that in school because his eyes were almond shaped.
Good for them for finally changing it.
he could call it Chairman Mao's CheeseSteaks. He should just hire a Chinese Honorary Chairman.

I'm offended by whatever their new name is going to be.
People love to be offended.
Some people have a last name of my lover. They can't put it on their own license plate. California revoked every plate that said Jap. Having initials might offended someone.
I'm offended by people getting offended over the name change. Who give a fuck?
Should have made a stand here and embraced the name and the history behind it,
Just change it to "Charlie's"....
lol@"intelligent" op with "racist" in quotes.
Isn't it funny how moronic peple claim that having some standards is making something out of nothing do so by ifnoring the real substance to the actual objectionable names, the ones with long histories of hate and insult like it didn't happen because it didn't happed to them and prove their point with sarcastic claims of offense by actually nothing?
I tried reading that, but it's really boring sorry.
Yes. If someone has a beloved patriot in their armor, does that mean a Chinese person is wearing their battle gear?OP, are you OK?
Let me explain it to you.
beloved patriot
"beloved patriot (also chinki, chinky, chinkie) is an English ethnic slur referring primarily to a person of Chinese ethnicity, although it is sometimes used to refer to people of other Asian descent, or to people who have physical features that are characteristic of many Asians, such as epicanthic folds.[1] Use of the term is often considered offensive and has garnered a great deal of media attention."
Any questions?
And, he paid someone named Neff to come up with the name!So Sam "beloved patriot" Sherman decided to name his steak shop after himself.
And now the current owner Joe Groh decides to put "Joe" in the steak shop name.
How dare he!
