Any guesses as to when they'll stop. I'm thinking after the 20th kid.

Arkansas family welcomes 18th child, a girl

Thu Dec 18, 8:46 pm ET

ROGERS, Ark. ? An Arkansas woman has given birth to her 18th child. Michelle Duggar delivered the baby girl by Caesarean section Thursday at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. The baby, named Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar, weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

"The ultimate Christmas gift from God," said Jim Bob Duggar, the father of the 18 children. "She's just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters."

The Duggars now have 10 sons and eight daughters.

Jim Bob Duggar said Michelle started having contractions Wednesday night. She needed the C-section, her third, because the baby was lying sideways. Jim Bob said both baby and mother were doing well Thursday night.

"We both would love to have more," he said.

The cable network TLC broadcasts a weekly show about the Duggars, called "17 Kids and Counting." Chris Finnegan of TLC ? which handles public relations for the Duggar family ? said the show's name would be updated to account for the latest addition to the family. He said TLC also will air a show Monday on the baby's delivery.

Jim Bob Duggar is 43, a year older than his wife. Their oldest child, Joshua, is 20.

The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jordyn-Grace, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 17; Jessa, 16; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 12; Joy-Anna, 11; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 8; James, 7; Justin, 6; Jackson, 4; Johannah, 3; and Jennifer, 1.

"Our whole family is excited about Jordyn's addition to our family," Jim Bob Duggar said. "She's just perfect in every way."

The comedy movie "Idiocracy" by the Beavis & Butthead creator postulates that all the trailer trash procreate like rabbits while the career yuppies don't (waiting it out until it's too late). The world is eventually taken over by the mentally challenged (like George Bush).

Anyone see this movie?......

Or change a bulb. My neighbors (2 males 2 females) are in there mid 20s. One day the hall light burned out on their floor and I was coming downsatirs to go out and I see all 4 of them looking at the light fixture saying they have to call the electrician. I went back upstairs, got a light bulb and changed it. They came out the apt and said "oh, it works again!" I looked at them and said "How many fake NY bohemians does it take to change a light bulb". They all looked at me in total confusion. I just left in disgust. This is a true story BTW.

Wow.
I guess those are the calls electricians love though. 1hr minimum charge @ $100/hr - to change a light bulb.

Back on the campus apartment, I replaced a light fixture. The old one had a crappy circular fluorescent tube in it and a ballast dating back to the pre-Revolutionary War days. I think it put out as much light as an optical mouse. It sucked. Reading in there was nearly impossible with just that light.

So, without permission and without asking, I replaced it with a dual-socket fixture with a nice decorative glass plate, and stuck in two 23W CFLs. So very much brighter.
The college can consider it to be a "charitable" donation.

Sad but true. The smarter ones also have some concept of the benefits of population control.

"Be fruitful and multiply" - yeah, fine. Have two kids. God didn't say it's a damn contest.

I love all the hate being thrown around. They are probably the most functional and happy there is.

I watched a show on them once, those kids acted like robots. I predict at least two will completely snap and turn into raging alcoholic/drug addicts.

only 2 out of 18? that's better odds than normal.

Think about it, 20 trailers, 20 govt bailouts when a tornado strikes, 2,000,000 bucks for duck and cover. win/win.

uhhh... have you seen pictures of the mansion they live in? This family is freakin loaded.

Maybe higher once more of the girls get to dating age and Jim Bob tries to enforce the "hand-holding before marriage" rule.

I'm not hating on them... it's really none of my business whether they are happy or miserable or whatever... I'm just legitimately curious how these children could maintain an aspect of self-worth and how a woman could be happy spending about 20 years of her life pregnant or trying to recover from pregnancy. Every pregnant woman I know has felt wrecked and miserable with an occasional bout of joy for the later half of pregnancy.

Why is it that whenever one of these evangelical religious people has a million kids, they always describe every one of them as a "perfect blessing from God" or something? It creeps me out. Most people, and I'm including religious people (but not the evangelical born-again types), would say something about how it's a handful or how crazy it is taking care of their kids but they love them, or something like that. They sound so brainwashed.

Funny to me they just sound happy and at peace with themselves and their choices in life.

I agree, although there were two episodes that made me go wtf and wonder which kid it is that will make a break for it (my bets are on Jinger)

1. The episode where they change jurisdictions for a day. It seemed like the girls were a shade uncomfortable about having to learn how to change the oil in the cars and how to change a flat tire and didn't really sound excited about having to learn these things. The boys that cooked and clean just acted like boys and made a mess.
2. The episode where the oldest son discussed becoming engaged. It just reminded me of Victorian times - having a chaperone, not kissing until your wedding day, only hand holding, etc. He's perfectly happy with his decision though, and his wife agreed to all of it.

Otherwise, I actually enjoy their show.

Although I noticed lately they've been doing product placement.

"We really like using Scrubbing Bubbles to clean the bathroom. It really helps to get the place clean."

Another episode I watched they were using Pledge to dust and clean, with nice zoom-ins on the Pledge can.

I liked how this "series" they've included their cousin Amy Duggar, who is a bit more mainstream and not a part of the Quiverfull movement.

Yeah, this is what freaks me out about these folks. They may be a happy family, but the kids are being brainwashed into christian-fundy-crazies.

I'd rather be a miserable free thinker.

I do feel sad for the older children though, having to help out so much.

Why? It wasn't all that long ago when the older kids having to help out was the norm and not the exception. Given how many people my age (mid-20's) don't know how to cook or do basic household maintenance or even iron their own clothing I'd say that it might be a very good thing that the older children are helping out and learning valuable skills.

ZV

There's nothing wrong with doing chores around the house, in fact I think it's important for children to start doing this early. That being said, I think the older kids are doing more then helping out around the house, they're almost mom/dad jr to one of the younger children. Each of older children are paired w/ a younger child that their responsible for.

So... you're scared that they are being taught what their parents believe in instead of what YOU believe in?

You guys misunderstand. I'm not criticizing them at all for being religious. Everyone has their own beliefs and it would be presumptive of me to try to tell others what to do. That includes telling others how many kids to have.

I just think it's weird is all. I'm certainly happy that they can afford to support them all, and I'm glad that they are a caring household, it's just that something seems a bit off. Whenever things seem too perfect, something in my mind tells me that there has to be more than meets the eye.

Yes, because I'm right and they're wrong.
