Took the Wife and the kid fishing at a local pay to fish pond here in Marietta. The weather was nice and the Bream were biting from the word GO. There were also some nice people out there and the conversation was good. We swapped pond information on some other spots as well as fish stories.

After about 2 hours of pulling in small bream, I decided to see if there were any catfish in this pond. So I got the smallest bream in the bucket, cut him into 1 inch by 1 inch squares, and tossed the bait into the deepest part of the lake. While I was running my mouth and swapping stories with some new people showing up, my line went tight, and my Ugly Stik bent over. I waited a bit and set the hook. Next thing I knew I was in a pretty good fight, and then SNAP!!!!!!!, the line broke. Now I am not sure how big this "fish" was, but he had to be of decent size to break off 20lb Stren Mono. so I re-rigged, and cast out again, this time it hit before it got to the bottom, so I reeled in, and it was a snapping turtle. I tried to remove the hook, but that monster had other ideas about the pliers coming at his face, so I just cut the line and set him on his grumpy way, towards the other lake. Buy this time and 2 hooks later, I decided that 30 palm sized bream were enough and started to pack it in to go home. that is when my wife hooked a 2lb flathead on a cricket. ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Out fished again by the wife and kid using ultralight tackle and crickets. I think it may be time for me to go back to building and repairing computers and setting up home networks as a hobby, and leave fishing to the less experienced.........................................

To be continued.

I haven't been fishing in years, but nothing better than a light reel, crickets, crawlers and minnows. I'd usually just stick to worms and crickets, but I was always after bluegill.

ROFL... It happens to the best of us..

My funny fish story:

My friend found out that I love to fish. So, he invited me out on their 22' flats boat with his dad. Now, my friend's dad (didn't know him that well) was completely overbearing. He's the type of guy that makes his 22yo son say 'Yessir' and 'No sir' every time he addresses his dad.

I brought my own two poles with me.. a baitcaster and spin cast reel. I caught a 30lb Barracuda off that baitcaster pole before (despite it feeling a bit flimsy). When I show up to get on the boat, his dad is like, "Put that pole back in your car.. It's way too flimsy where we're going." Not wanting to argue with him first thing, I just listened.. He had plenty of poles it looked like..

Then, when we get out to 'his favorite spot' he tells me to throw a hook on my line. So, I start tying my hook on my braided line using MY GODDAMN FISHING KNOT. That's right.. it is my own knot that my dad taught me, that his grandpa taught him, etc.. It works every time in all the years I've been fishing. Friend's dad tells me, "That's not how you tie it! Here, lemme do it." and he pulled the pole from me and tied the hook on with a double knot.. Then he instructed me how to put a shrimp on the hook 'the right way.'

So anyway, this is the type of guy he is.. after an hour or two more of this (none of us catching anything) he agreed to go to a spot I remembered that was pretty good and nearby. I started catching stuff! (after switching covertly to my methods) I caught a Mackeral.. and another.. and then another.. Then his son caught one.. Then, I caught a Drum.. and then a flounder! His dad caught one fish..

By the end of the day, it was me: 7 keepers, his son: 2 keepers, him: ONE iffy keeper (too small to keep legally but still dinner)..

It felt really good to catch that many fish after insisting on using my methods.. Needless to say, I never did get invited out with him again.

Cool. I love saltwater fishing since you never know what you're going to catch.
I just came back from a 5 day trip on a fishing boat out of San Diego. We were fishing in Mexico and caught a bunch of Albacore Tuna, some Yellowtail and a few Yellowfin Tuna. Catching these fish is a blast. We were using live sardines flylined on 25lb izorline.

My wife and young daughters want to go fishing, but I'm 100% positive that it will end with three sets of crying eyes and me giving pretend CPR to a fish and setting it, newly resuscitated, back into the water.

I go fishing once a year with my wifes family. Best week out of 52 for me. I fly from SF to Detriot, then we all drive up to Lake Nippissing in Canada.

Now that is fishing.
