Took the Wife and the kid fishing at a local pay to fish pond here in Marietta. The weather was nice and the Bream were biting from the word GO. There were also some nice people out there and the conversation was good. We swapped pond information on some other spots as well as fish stories.
After about 2 hours of pulling in small bream, I decided to see if there were any catfish in this pond. So I got the smallest bream in the bucket, cut him into 1 inch by 1 inch squares, and tossed the bait into the deepest part of the lake. While I was running my mouth and swapping stories with some new people showing up, my line went tight, and my Ugly Stik bent over. I waited a bit and set the hook. Next thing I knew I was in a pretty good fight, and then SNAP!!!!!!!, the line broke. Now I am not sure how big this "fish" was, but he had to be of decent size to break off 20lb Stren Mono. so I re-rigged, and cast out again, this time it hit before it got to the bottom, so I reeled in, and it was a snapping turtle. I tried to remove the hook, but that monster had other ideas about the pliers coming at his face, so I just cut the line and set him on his grumpy way, towards the other lake. Buy this time and 2 hooks later, I decided that 30 palm sized bream were enough and started to pack it in to go home. that is when my wife hooked a 2lb flathead on a cricket. ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Out fished again by the wife and kid using ultralight tackle and crickets. I think it may be time for me to go back to building and repairing computers and setting up home networks as a hobby, and leave fishing to the less experienced.........................................
To be continued.
