Well, one of the beauties of Family guy is that it got axed in it's prime. Who knows what the show would be like if we where on episode 5 or 6 right now?
I love the shows but southpark is getting repetitive and simpsons has been going so far down hill from it's prime. Futurama was doing an ok job of staying fresh, but it got axed as an award.
In the third season you saw the creators thrashing about a little, killing peters boss, turning peter into of all things a fisherman etc. Not sure if anything was added by those changes.
I think it is great that the team had a chance to take a break and come back at the show with a fresh start.
I must have seen every show 3 times, favorite moments are actually non cartoon:
Peter does drugs and things get too real: flash to non cartoon peter in the real world
After the Y2K episode they did a remake of the end of dalas with the original actors (it was all a dream)
Peter says something about alysa milano using drugs: flash to real life alysa yelling at her lawyer to sue.
Oh there was one perfect cartoon moment that epitomized what makes family guy great. It's in the episode peter goes to washington, the evil cigarette owner is happy to see a pet poodle, then yells "pull" an they throw the poodle out the window for skeet practice. I think the beauty of the family guy was the ability to suprise me even in episode 3 after 50 shows or so....
