Oh and BTW, I have 100 in several skills. Am I right that bonus items, like +10 Sm Guns armor is useless? it seems to top out at 100, which is a shame.

I did find a use for the railway gun. It has a tiny bit more damage than the hunting rifle and although the mag is the same, it doesn't buck/require reload while shooting in non-VATS mode, so it can fire quite quickly.

Yes. If you know you're going to collect bobbleheads the best thing to do is just max your skills to 90, and then get the bobblehead. Same thing with SPECIAL. Don't put anything at 10, just set it to 9 and then collect the bobbleheads. It lets you spread around your skill points more.

Argh! I hate to even entertain the idea, but I can in fact see playing this game potentially twice. It really is a fantastic game. It has yet to annoy me. Even the water swimming, which is deplorable in almost all games, is an absolute minimum.

Looks like a win. 800 for that sounds reasonable. 400 would have been ideal, but anyway.

Shame I'll be finished the game by the time this comes out. I hate the idea of playing it through again, but at the same time I wouldn't say that if I truly hated the idea 😉

In Operation: Anchorage the player will find themselves able to re-live the famous liberation of Anchorage from Fallout lore -- inside a simulation similar to one found along the main quest of Fallout 3. Once the player finds their way into the simulation, they'll be stripped of their resources and have to survive within the rules set up by the simulation's creators.

The Chinese red army is everywhere, and the player will first have to secure the surrounding mountain side and then fight their way into the Chinese base. The player will have to use a lot of their standard combat skills, along with several new tools that will only be available in the downloadable content. These include interactive Strike Teams under the player's command and unique armor, weapons, and other exotic gadgets.

That doesn't really sound good to me at all.. It sounds like a different game, I want more of the same. THAT game has been done to death, give me more F3..

Will give them the BOTD though, and hold my judgment until its out.

That's what I thought as well. The other two expansions sound much better to me. This one sounds like a straight shooter. I was really hoping for a Shivering Isles type expansion for Fallout 3.

why does this game look so... bad graphically on the ps3? i haven't been able to compare with the xbox version, but the pc version looks great on a halfway decent rig. the ps3 has jaggies and crappy looking textures and stuff. i beat the game, but damn, graphically, parts of it just made me sad.

Without looking for it, I'd have a hard time seeing a difference. Side by side, though, I can see that the PS3 lacks the anti-aliasing that the xbox version has and seems to generally have a smidgen less detail.

This is what baffles me, the PS3 was touted as a graphical powerhouse but they seem to have so many problems programming to take the most of it. It's close though.

Finally started on Fallout 3 (wanted to beat UT3 first, which was short but surprisingly a ton of fun). I hit level 7 this morning (played a few mins before work) while clearing out a random city near the Outcast's base (I think that's the name). Then I promptly stepped on a land mine and kilt myself, and of course I hadn't saved in a while...

So far I am thouroughly impressed with this game. The world is SO big, I know I've not explored 85%+ of the world yet. I've not even worried about the main quest either, I got to Megaton and haven't done anything after that. So far I've had mostly good Karma, I think I'll play though the game again and do everything evil, not sure how I'll go through being neutral, but I'll try it on the 3rd go around (will probably need a break between 2 and 3 though). The complaint people have about not having enough ammo has been true once or twice, but all I've had to do to remedy it is travel back to Megaton and buy some, it's not been a huge hinderance yet...but I've had some close calls. That and I don't have alot of strength so I get overburdened every once in a while. I think at lvl 8 I'll get the Strong Back perk.

Kind of curious, how did you all build your characters?? So far I'm small guns, repair, science, and speech mostly.

Get the Scrounger perk and you'll never worry about ammo again.

I've also only found 1 bobblehead (the one in the starting vault)...probably need to go look for more but I've jut not been...inclined.

It may be that I use VATS for 90% of my firings, but I have found ammo no problem in the game. I didn't go through the first several levels at all using non-vats combat. Only later do I sometimes, but I find the controller for consoles to be woefully terrible for FPS games anyway, so VATS ensures my ammunition stockpiles well.

Kind of curious, how did you all build your characters?? So far I'm small guns, repair, science, and speech mostly.

100 small guns, big guns (came after small and laser), laser, repair. Got 75 science with my last 2-3 levels of points. I also have about 64 medicine. The rest of my skills are pretty low except for sneak (51). Small guns is a crucial skill. I also have the sniper, gunslinger, and commando perks and the grim reaper is what I got at level 20, so my guy is crazy wicked with weapons now. 10 agility points also.

I have crap barter but with 100 repair it's possible to make good bank selling quality weapons.

I would not get science again and would instead get lock picking, which I think is better.

Bobbleheads are hard to find.

Yeah, next time through I'll get lockpick instead, seems that it'd be more useful as a whole. I use VATS when I get closer but typically I try to take enemies out with the hunting rifle at a distance and then move in with either the combat shotgun or the Chinese assault rifle for VATS. If it takes more than one or two shots though I run out of...action points or whatever (VATS juice I'll call it).

I think I'm going to skip out on laser all together and just get big guns, small guns, and repair (with speech and science reasonibly high as well). Then next time I'll try something different like melee and laser, and I'll work on sneaking.

I definately need to be evil next time, I got the achievement for planting a live grenade in someone's pocket but then loaded a save game, it was too much fun.

I have never successfully opened a lock 🙁 I think I'm doing it wrong but I always break all my bobby pins.

I'd go for laser instead of big guns. Most of the big guns are ammo wasters and slow you down a lot. Later in the game the plasma rifle is awesome. If you can get A3-21's plasma rifle from a certain quest, you can own anything in the game.

I agree.. A3-21 plasma rifle is ridiculously good, and you can get it really early on in the game.

It took me a while to figure out what to do, it's really simple. Just move the pin around and then rotate the lock, if the controller starts to vibrate stop moving the lock. The less the controller vibrates the closer you are to having the pin in the right place.

I'll probably go laser rifle the next time through. Big Gun will be for fun more than anything. Power armor + big guns = cool?? I dunno, guess we'll see.

Weapons wearing out has me frusterated, but not in a bad way. I didn't realize how much more powerful the Chinese assault rifle was than the standard assault rifle, I prombtly swapped it out, then realized it was almost broken and I didn't have another gun to use for repairs. When I finally got one I started using it, it gets the job done reasonably well. I have a sniper rifle I got from the guy at Minetown but it's in bad shape and I've yet to see another one to repair it.

Next up I've gotta finish off the Survivor Guide quests (I've got one left to do on the 2nd chapter). Oh, and I've gotta go back to the "Blood Ties" or whatever quest, as I realized I didn't quite finish it, I've got one more thing to do.

you just gotta gently nudge it. if you hear a click, stop and try a different angle. the key is to be gentle and patient (though doesn't really require much of either).

Ahh thanks guys I was doing it wrong.

I've only finished Blood Ties, The Power of Atom, and 1 part of the survival guide quest but so far this is my game of the year.

I forgot to go back and talk to the guy in the subway at the end of Blood Ties so I didn't get my achievement, gotta go find him.

The survival guide is by far the longest side quest in the game.

Yeah, at this time laser is crap. I'm 48 hours in and level 20 and just honestly hardly ever use it. I have a lser rifle but it's kind of lame, like a hunting rifle. No idea where to get a plasma weapon.

If you can get A3-21's plasma rifle from a certain quest

A good repaired hunting rifle is pretty nice I think, a VATS sneak atk crit to the head can one shot kill quite a bit of the earlier creatures and it's got pretty decent range. Kinda nice using it to hit a mirelurk in the face with a snk atk crt and watch it's arms and legs fly off.

I put some into big guns, just because I think the fat man is one, and I'm hoping it's like the other skills and ups the dmg the higher the skill.

**Energy Weapon Spoler-ish**

Plasma rifles come from the enclave guys mainly twords the end of the main quest, although they are sprinkled around other places too later in the game.. I believe there is even one sitting on a desk in front of the Citadel Armory you can grab without penalty.

A3-21 rifle comes from finishing the Replicated Man quest a certain way.

Those, the Alien Blaster and, of course the Gatling Laser are the energy weapons to get. A3-21 is my MVP weapon of the game, I get it early, and it remains effective all the way to the end.

All of the other laser pistols, rifles, etc suck pretty bad in comparison
