Fallout 3 was amazing, so I'd pick that, but then I never really got into any of the GTAs, except the first one.

I played Fallout 3 but I could never really get into it. It wasn't really that immersive to me, and I didn't like the combat system at all.

Gameplay-wise, I'm still kind of undecided as far as whether I like the game or not. It's heavy on the exploration, so if you're into non-stop frag-fests like the UT games or Diablo clones, it might not be your thing.

That's definitely the truth! I just started playing it today and 4 hours zipped by like nothing. I'm not use to playing games for so long but, wow, I was completely lost in the thing. I'm really liking it so far ,everything except the excessive dialouge, and that's high praise since up until today I hated RPGs.

Loving FO3 right now. It really sucks you in. I just don't want to stop playing this game.

I've played all the way through both. Fo3 is definitley the more immersive and original game for me -- even though is closely resembles Oblivion in gameplay and graphics/design. GTA IV is excellent, but I found it to repetitious and similar to previous GTAs.

Other major difference between these games is one is an RPG with FPS elements, and the other is an third person shooter with driving and adventure elements.

Thanks all. I bought Fallout 3 and am enjoying it a lot. It's a lot more fun than Oblivion actually despite the similarities

Fallout 3. This is the biggest no brainer recommendation of them all. GTA IV is the same as the other ones, and even if you loved them I think you may find it boring, since it really is just an expansion. Fallout 3 is perfect. If all xbox games were like that I'd be so damn pleased, it was a very solid game.

Glad you got F3, it was worth it. I avoid gaming when my kids are up and between F3 and GTAIV which one do you think I was setting my alarm for to play before work? Certainly not GTA IV :)

Fallout 3 if you can get into the mode of exploring the world and enjoying that atmosphere of the Fallout universe. if your focus is to just blow through the story though, you probably won't like the game. also treat the game as a RPG and not a FPS

GTA 4 if you have a quad core CPU & video card that is at least equivalent to a GTX 260 or 4870 1 GB

GTA4 is a pain in the ass to get running satisfactorily. It's a great game but play it on the 360 if you can.

i preferred GTA4, although the constant "take me to do something" missions from your friends sucks ass. haven't finished Fallout3, got bored with it, same as Oblivion. sounds like GTA4 would last longer too.

Not sure, I loved Fallout 3, ( I scored it 96% ) but right now I'm playing GTA IV and I like it as well. Runs great on my 3,8ghz e7300 btw. GTA IV is more of an open game, you'll have to keep yourself busy most of the time, where-as fallout 3 has you going on quests. Both are probably great games, but depending on your taste one might be better for you. I'm sure neither will really dissapoint though.

there's always missions to do in GTA4 so i don't see how you can say that...

I actually prefer GTA 4, simply because I don't really sit down and play video games or hours anymore, as is often necessary to get anywhere in FO3. GTA4 is good instant gratification - if I don't have time for a mission (which only takes 15-30 minutes anyway), I can just walk out of my house, type in some weapon cheats, and go on a rampage. You'll need a good, at least dual core processor to run it, though. I got pissed off trying to run it on my old single core machine since it was a slideshow, and my new laptop with a C2D P8600 still only runs in the low 20's FPS-wise at a lowered resolution.

I suggest Fallout 3. Just by itself it is already tons of fun and many hours of entertainment provided you DON'T just follow the main storyline(which would be lame and not very smart). With all expansions and mods, it can easily keep you buys for months, without getting boring.

GTA IV is not really a PC game. It is a poor, lazy console port to the PC, and should be boycotted by any PC gamer to show Rockstar that they cant pull shit like that.

Fallout 3 ends. GTA IV doesn't. Fallout 3 characters look like cardboard. GTA IV characters look alive. Fallout 3 environment looks dead, oh noes, nuclear holocaust. GTA IV environment is interactive. That's just me, I'll let you get back to your Fallout 3 stroking session.

technically it does end. you can still keep playing after you finish it, but there are no more missions or anything.

Fallout 3 and the expansions really are amazing...and the mods available are pretty cool.

GTA4 is awesome as well...and the game really isn't anything too difficult to run now that there are 3 patches available...it took me installing all 3 to make the game playable though...first two really didn't do anything, but the third makes it playable at just about max settings with a 3ghz dual core and Crossfire...awesome game, if you stick to the story line...just running and killing can get old pretty quick...

Fallout 3 can get old too...I started playing by doing all the little side quests and deep exploration, but it just got old after a couple days...I just wanted to beat the game after playing it a few days. Maybe it was just my impatient ass or my ADD...but all the little side quests and such just really arent that deep and add little to the actual story line and game play.
