The other problem is the damage on those two aren't usually enough to kill the bigger guys unless you get a lucky crit with one hit, or unless you fire a molerat. The other big guns you can use with this aren't useful either because they will go through ammo like crazy!!!! With ammo so rare in this game, it's very situational when you use these guns.

I tagged Big guns, explosives, medical and melee; I felt like making a pure fighter first time through (usually make a thief/sneaker). I gotta agree that big guns ammo is scarce, and thus, you try your best to avoid using them. I'm about 80 in this skill, but still need about 30 5mm rounds from my minigun to kill a raider. I pretty much reload a save if I feel like I missed too much. I probably use the flame thrower the most out of all my biggies (i.e. mini, flame, missile launcher). Luckily, I use melee the most, so have an abundance of ammo (e.g. 20 rockets, 700 5.56mm, 600 5mm, 700 10mm, ec. at level 14). My play style right now is just standing my ground and going toe to toe with everyone.

Medicine has been pretty good, kinda. I might only take it to 75 cause in all honesty, I just want it up so I don't need to use as many stimpacks. Pointless when I have 80 and a general surplus of loot to buy more with. Maybe I should have thought this one through more...

I'll be picking up that extra tag perk. It's either going in science or lasers.

By the way, does anyone know what 'class' of weapon the Rock-it-launcher is? I finally bought the plans and have found it to be an amazing weapon. It only takes 3 rounds to kill a Talon dude, and 2 to kill a robot. Repair uscheap and ammo is... everywhere. I'm assuming its a big gun since its big and my high skill points in it seem to be helping.

And you can shoot grenades? Awesome. If only I didn't take off their heads before they completed throwing:).

Since my last post, i went ahead and got the game and I must say I am very impressed.
It is nothing like Oblivion, besides the exploring and quests, but the combat is way better. The slow motion-AP thing is really nice. At first I was having difficulty but it was because of my poor choice of weapon and scenario, etc. Now I'm getting some great kills, especially with my extra damage % perk.

I've done a huge amount of exploring. I am not even doing the main mission at all. I've had the difficulty level at Hard and honestly, its not that bad. I've been entertained by the Supplies vendor giving me those missions for her book. And everytime I'm out, I get side tracked by other missions or other things to do.

There are tons of Items that I am finding, common ones, like Conductors, Fission Batteries, etc. They consume a lot of weight but I'm sure they will be key components to weapons making, which I'm looking forward to. I searched wiki vault and saw that there aren't many base types of armor/weapons. Whats the deal with customized weapons/armor?

great game.

How's everyone finding schematics?

Also did anyone buy a lab for their home? It just keeps producing dirty water as the compound...wtF?

Also..Just completed my railway rifle from a schematic... 1 fission battery..1 crutch..1 pressure cooker and 1 steam assembly...awesome as hell!

I got Dogmeat as a follower last night. I wish I had a little more control over him though. For instance, I made my way to Falls Church and found some BoS guys there. I helped them kill some mutants and after the mutants were dead, Dogmeat immediately started attacking the BoS guys. They weren't flagged as enemies to me so I don't know he attacked them. I reloaded and made him wait at the one entrance to Falls Church while I helped out.

I'd like to be able to have him follow but not attack. key commands for attack, stay, etc would be nice. Also, what good are the Good boy and Bad boy options in the dialogue menu?

oh, and some kind of health meter for him would be great too.

really weird...im right outside the anchorage war memorial and when i walk up the stairs to the statue at first i found a deathclaw and a dead guy, the guy had schematics for the guantlet. then I reloaded the game about 20 times and went back up the stairs, almost everytime there was something different up there; 3 talon mercs, 4 different caravans selling something (one actually had a Yao Guai as his guard, i attacked him for fun and realized bad idea), a junkie selling drugs, some guy named ben that needed water, a doctor, random single enemies including a large radscorpion, also some guy named lazlo and the oddest one was i heard an explosion and i started receiving radiation and when i got to the platform there were like a dozen alien energy cells (which i guess are ammo)

oh and one time the chinese radio signal picked up but only one time...that was really weird

love the randomness

speaking of explosions, does anyone else hear what sounds like explosions going off randomly (sounds kind of far away) while you're exploring? I keep hearing and expect to see something but there's never anything around. I'm guessing it's just some kind of ambient noise but really bugs me when i hear it.

Probably just creeps tripping mines or fighting each other. Brutes will fight with centaurs, for example, if they cross paths.

yeah I kinda did and I found the alien energy cells. It can also be fighting in another area close to you, I've randomly seen cars blow up because people are shooting each other

Oh, and I think I've only found one schematic so far. I feel like I'm way behind for being almost level 8...I mostly have pistols at this point.

Yep. There's usually some battle going on between raiders and some monster. Either they like fragging or trading rockets. Pretty cool either way. Unfortunately, most of each side will probably be gibbed by the time you get there.

i have the rock-it launcher (bought from megaton shop), the nuka cola bomb thing, the bottlecap mine, and i thought i had a shishkebab schematic but i don't see it any more. i may have others that i can't think of.

i kind of hate how your karma goes down if you steal or lockpick. if no one sees you do it, you shouldn't take a hit. if no one knows you did anytihng wrong, how can they know you are good or evil?

i did find that if you give the scrap metal to the dude at the processing plant in megaton, you get good karma. you can also sell it for 10 caps a piece. I'm wondering if its better to give the guy all your scrap at once of do it in increments? Like if i have 3 scrap metal, is it better to do 3 transactions or just give it all at once? does it go by # of scrap metal or # of times you give him scrap metal, or does it not matter?

Not a long wait for F3 patch link. .

Talking to Eurogamer, Bethesda's Fallout 3 product manager, Peter Hines, said that a patch was in the works, aiming to tackle ?a few PC-specific things that have come up?. Hines added that the patch was coming soon, maybe even today, but the company is now talking about a release date later this week, with the aim of fixing the most pressing bugs that lead to crashes.

Finally fished the game. Ending was easy. Pretty short if you cut to the chase. I did a lot of side missions though and I got sick of getting more treasures. It became repetitive after few days of extensive play. Pretty good story though.

I just collect the scrap metal and whenever I go back to Megaton I just pass it over to him.

The karma system is like if you know its bad and you are still doing it then even if no one sees it still considered to be an evil act...karma is like if you do something bad it'll get you back at some point.

You get the shishkebob specs after the Blood Ties quest and I found the Railroad rifle specs in a power plant shack north (i think) of the minefield; the deathclaw gauntlet I got lucky and found a deathclaw and a dead guy with the specs.

Wastelander hits mine....BOOM. I actually tracked down 1 of the explosions once and found a wastelander missing a leg :)

as already mentioned, might be an alien ship crashing, in which case you can pick up alien power cells for the alien blaster.

the alien blaster is, I believe, the most powerful gun, and can be located west of the disposal site by the minefield. when you pick up an alien radio broadcast, you're close.

In terms of schematics, while the railway gun has been useful, and the Rock-it saved my skin a few times early in the game when I ran out of ammo, the dart gun is by far my favorite. It's useless for actually killing things, but instantly crippling boths legs of any biological on any hit helps a great deal.

Deathclaws run faster then I do. But not with broken legs, and that means 1 dart and I can backpedal and pick them off at my leisure.

Anybody else noticed Megatonners falling to their deaths for no reason? The sheriff bought it that way in my first game, and the mechanic in my second.

Did not know that.... almost seems cheap. The speed and attack power is really what makes Deathclaws so damned dangerous. But I guess that's only slightly worse than my "abuse rock pathing" strategy for Deathclaws.

Cheap? Sounds like a sound strategy to me. In a life or death situation, "fairness" shouldn't ever come into play =)
